evadwolrab
Hearing a lot of rumblings on our end that he's set to succeed Paul Simpson. Makes sense really, not much hope of him succeeding Moyesey since he won't be going anywhere for a while. Plus Moyes might have been telling him what a great club PNE is to start your management career. Anyone on your side heard anything? And does anyone have an opinion on whether he'd make a decent manager? Personally I hadn't heard of him until these rumours started. Blue 250
You wont know how good he'll be until he starts picking teams and applying tactics! If he sits in as Evertons number two he could be in a good job for years with no hassle, if he moves on and struggles, well he's out of the comfort zone! Depends on the man! Never a great player, but then again nor was Alex Ferguson.
Yorkie
He should go for it. If he gets the job I won't lose any sleep, if he doesn't i'll be happy that he's here.
Romey 1878
I reckon he'd do a decent job myself. And tbh I'd be happy to see him go. Getting a new number 2 could see us play better football because Moyes might get some new ideas from a fresh face.
Louis
If he were to leave what kind of replacement would you look for? Tried and tested british, someone on the continent, south american, african or asian?
Romey 1878
If he were to leave what kind of replacement would you look for? Tried and tested british, someone on the continent, south american, african or asian? Someone with an attacking background rather than the defensive minds of Moyes and Irvine. Just something different, I don't mind where they're from or even their experience as a number
Philinsuffolk
Must say I am a little surprised that there isn't a little more interest in us keeping Irvine. We have continued to improve/evolve under Moyes and it is only fair that Irvine gets some of the credit for this as they are a management team. If he gets the chance and fancies it, then he goes with good wishes. But why would we be keen to rock the boat? Evolution not revolution is the only way it can be for us in this age of the game. CraccerC
i agree phil, he's part of a progressing coaching staff
Maghull70
If he were to leave what kind of replacement would you look for? Tried and tested british, someone on the continent, south american, african or asian? Someone with a clue, dont care where hes from. What about Colin Harvey? Too old to be a "hands on" coach but get him in as a tactician.
Everton_Worshiper
Would not like to see him go, as mentioned he is part of the team that is improving this football club. To answer original question, I think he would make a good manager but he would have to ditch the trackies for a nice suit!
adamsmith69
I wouldnt like to see Irvine go, i think he is a very good number two, and as has been said we are progressing with moyes and him here so why change?
gmb08
He'll do a great job there, hopefully we'll get someone like Reidy as the new no.2.
Louis
He's gone.. good luck to him. I wonder who will be brought in. Maybe it's been on the cards for a while and that's why Paul Bennett was brought in from Crewe. i.e. Andy Holden will be brought in as assistant with Paul Bennet could take over reserves. StevO
if hes staying then fine, doing a good job so far. if he has gone like whats being reported, then best of luck to him, been a good servant as a player and as a assistant manager/coach. Adam
Would rather him stay as he has been part of the steady progress that we have made with him and DM but then don't blame him for wanting to try out being a boss instead of a number 2. Look at Utd with AF number 2 went to Madrid didn't work out and came back so you never know. But heres hoping if he gone then he has a good time there and a good long run
StevO
icliverpool has brian kidd as a front runner for assistant, happy with that one!
Louis
Yep me too Steve.. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/everto...64375-20133612/ As long as we don't let him near the transfer kitty we'll be fine

Josh Berno
TBH I think we did need a change of no.2 anyway someone with more experience than Alan. I hope he does a good job at PNE. I think if we had a Everton legend like Andy Gray, Sharpy etc. Edited November 20, 2007 by Josh Berno
EFCfanatic
Best of luck to him. Its a big job for his first job. Impotant to keep pne in the division and only charlton on saturday 4 em! I'd love Reidy or Gray but Reid will be looking to be the manager somewhere and gray gets payed to well at sky. aaron
hope he goes on to be a successful manager, good luck to him Wouldnt mind Kidd as assistant like, or even reidy.
Blue4Ever
Good luck to him, Lets get Reid in for assistant now, or someone with a bit of attacking knowledge of the game. Id like to see what tactics and style of play he uses at PNE. Best of luck Alan.
Romey 1878
Reid is a legend but there's no way I'd want him as an assistant to Moyes. He wasn't a very good manager and I doubt he'd be a good number two.
Everton_Worshiper
No way would Reid be a good no.2....I could do a better job than him. Not sure who we will get in, heard rumours of brian kidd today.
CraccerC
didnt reid was that bad tbh. just didnt have the resources. moyes will still be in charge don't forget so its not like reid would be callin the shots tactically. Romey 1878
IMO we need an outsider type of person, not the same old same old. But that's just my opinion on it.
robin.jones
I agree we need someone withmore attacking nouse to get the best out of our stikers.
Calico
Good luck to Alan, hope he does well and thanks for being part of this new Everton. I gotta agree with what other people are saying regarding the new no.2. Someone with some attacking tendencies please.
