MikeO
On the BBC site this morning.. Sunderland defender Alan Stubbs is ready to forget his differences with Everton and return to his old club in January. (Daily Mail) Nothing surprises me any more. jared
ALAN STUBBS wants to return to Everton – just six months after his bitter departure from Goodison Park. The former Blues skipper walked out on Everton in the summer, angrily claiming that the club tried to insert a get-out clause in his new contract if his cancer returned. Stubbs, whose testicular cancer has been in remission for the last few years, joined Sunderland on a free transfer in August, but the boyhood Evertonian is now keen to come back to Merseyside. The 34-year-old, who is due back in action next week from a groin injury, has struggled to settle on Wearside and still commutes regularly to his family in Liverpool. He has also become disillusioned by Sunderland’s woeful season and Mick McCarthy’s side are odds-on to be relegated after managing just one win on their return to the Premiership. The former Celtic star hopes Sunderland will let him rejoin Everton during next month’s transfer window either for free or a nominal fee. A source close to Stubbs said: “Alan is unhappy at Sunderland and things have not worked out how he had hoped when he went there in the summer. “His family are still on Merseyside and he finds the travelling up and down between home and Sunderland very difficult. What do you think about Stubss joining back Toffees ... ? I think Stubbs is a way better than Weir. At least a better Captain... sheedysheedysheedy
Can't get any players to stand still long enough to put a Keane mould on!!! also most prob won't make them play any better <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From my position there seemed to be a few standing still last night!! Hate to single players out but Bent has to go, his influence/performances are bringing everyone else down! Let Charlton have him, the two 'Bents' are sure to put the willies up Premiership defences!! RuffRob
To be honest if comes back for free on is on low wages, I have no problem with having Alan Stubbs in the squad. It's not like he is going to be a major signing on long term mega contract. I don't think we will have to sacrifice other signings to have him back. Weir has been great, but is definately coming to the end of his shelf life. Yobo will be off to the african cup. So we could be a injury or two away from a limited back line. I would guess it would only be a contract until the end of the year. Even if he never gets a game, he is nice to have as back up or on the bench. Stubbs is a decent defender to have in the squad in the short term.

jared
No Stubbs please.... He didn't make quite an impact at Sunderland and you can see his club is leaking goals. So... He's not welcomed back to play... but can support Everton. He has left.. so dun come back. Edited December 17, 2005 by jared
