nyblue23
Slightly off-topic, but this is a primary reason why I think it’s so important (crucial even) to elect someone to the far left and stop pandering to moderates who are burdened by the wills of corporate interest groups, who can’t help but put their bottom lines above environmental issues: http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/02/book-excerpt-the-uninhabitable-earth-david-wallace-wells.html

You don’t think the right wing voters and candidates won’t use it against him? I doubt the true Democrats in general would but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was unfortunately. Anti-semitism and anti-agnosticism may be pretty equal at this point. Church attendance has dropped rapidly over the last couple decades, as my out of work pastor father could tell you. We’re down to 37% weekly attendees (it’s a miracle), and while some cultural religious non-attendees would still never vote for an atheist or agnostic, I personally know a bunch of Christians who would rather vote for someone of another religion. It’s not a non-issue, but it’s not a disqualifier anymore I don’t think. Matt and markjazzbassist

People seem to forget Jesus himself advocates for separation of church and state “give to ceasar what is Caesar’s, give to God what is Gods”. I’m a Christian and would have no issue voting for a Jew Muslim agnostic atheist etc. also the largest population is millennials, we outnumber the boomers so the issue is just mobilizing that vote. Stats on millennials show they care less and less about religion and voting for causes with it (abortion etc).

Plus hes not polarizing like Hilary who flip flopped on so many issues. SAnders has literally said the same things for decades. Only sketchy thing is his wife’s former arrangement with a university. Sanders is also the poorest or second poorest senator, so no rich guy taglines. The stuff the right wingers will attack him for is socialism (if you’re young this most likely doesn’t bother you, if you’re a boomer you flash back to the propaganda from your childhood commies), his wife, and then his Vice President If they have dirt on them. He’s about as clean as it gets in politics. Matt

I’ll vote for pretty much whoever the hell dems end up nominating, but I really do hope it’s someone who brings some fresh ideas to the office, as we haven’t had a truly progressive president since Carter. Haha, don't get it twisted. I don't like Trump, and unless he's impeached, he'll be on the ballot in 2020. I will not vote for him, so the only other option is a Democrat (Independents won't matter). I think O'Rourke would bring some fresh ideas in, and he also seems to be able to bring people together.

Race absolutely played a part, but Republicans are Zionists, so being of the Jewish race is far less an issue for them than being brown. markjazzbassist

The so-called “alt-right” who are responsible for riots in Charlottesville, Virginia and Portland, Oregon among other cities are extremely anti-Semitic, and they definitely have a presence online and in fringe culture, but they’re not so much influencing elections. That said, few things bother me more than when people try to equate antisemitism in this country with systemic racism towards black and brown folks. They’re not even on a remotely level playing field.

Multi cultural integration and the abolition of faith schools so that kids can mix freely with kids from different cultures and faiths, and see for themselves that people are not different and that will be the building blocks for the future. Great in theory but there's no sign of that happening, and nobody (minority aside) behind the concept. In today's nationalist climate the tabloids talk about "these people" and amplify the differences rather than try to point to the far greater amount of similarities, and unfortunately huge swathes of the public swallow the tabloid's rhetoric without question. I won't go on because I'll only invoke Godwin's law.

I agree with you Mike and the tabloids pray on the fact that most people are institutionalised racist because of the environment they have been brought up in, that’s not a slur on any individual knowingly acting in a racist or nationalistic way that’s just how the society we live in is educating kids, and faith schools have huge part to play in keeping the status quo the same, so let all cultures faiths and colours mix as kids then we can start breaking the cycle of telling kids they are different from kids else where. And that is not trying to get rid off religion but religion should be taught at home if the parents are of that nature and not in schools were you segregate kids from mixing at a young age were they can make bonds that they can take through to their adult life. nyblue23
