Nobody is expecting a Gerrard or Lampard, but he has the potential to be a very good player. When I have watched him he does not run about like a headless chicken, his reading of the game is amazing for someone with so little experience. I am just enjoying watch him develop into very good player for us. Matt, plaidharper and MikeO

The thing that Davies doesn't seem to have in his locker that Gerrard, Scholes or Lampard had is goals, interestingly that seems to be DCLs weakness too, and If Barkley doubled his goal tally every season, no one would be questioning his supposed lack of progress. So something for our youth coaches to look at maybe? Tale of caution from Lampard - there's a story that when he broke his leg as a youngster, some West Ham fans booed him as he left the field, no doubt the shithouses that that particular club specialises in. Sure that meant he wasn't really all that arsed about leaving for Chelsea a few years later and going on to be a PL legend. Bet the same West Ham fans booed him every time he went back to Upton Park for being a traitor.

I think more of a problem is some of our fan base watching our younger players and expecting them to turn in to Messi or Ronaldo eventually- unrealistic expectations of them and when the inevitable happens and they don’t become worldies they fume at them. That's just what gets my goat too! Young players have 2 expectations...either shite, not good enough or going to be amazing! What about just being able to be a good solid squad player? We spend £15 mill just on average players. If a handful of the yuff can make it as solid squadies, job done.

sydneyneil
All I said to start this was I didn't think he would develop into a top player. I think he will be a good solid Premier League player. I just think when he first came in, I thought he was going to be an absolute star. Now after 50 odd games, I don't think he has enough goals or assists in him. He does however, have good attributes. I am not slagging off the lad at all. He does frustrate me though with his yellows....... I think DCL will improve dramatically more than Davies. I think he has huge attributes to be a top centre forward. I dont think he has the natural eye for a goal like Lukaku, but I think he affects games hugely with other parts of his play. Hafnia
The lad has got a brain.... he will therefore learn. His natural ability in terms of being able to control it and pass it is very very good.

He does have the ball pinged into him a few times.
plaidharper
Deserves to be in our first team no doubt and at 19, I would say he is ahead of schedule. Super excited to see how he develops. Better question is why are some of our older / more experienced midfielders playing so poorly that they are not displacing him from the starting lineup like they should. Before picking Tom apart on what little we have seen of him (transfermarkt has him at 40 games, that's like 1 season), think some others deserve some attention in that regard. Also, was interesting to see transfermakt has him at 8mil so certainly has some fans (if not everyone in this thread).

And that is absolutely fine but our fans talk about him being a £30m player and I just chuckle because it’s some crazy shit. Gana gets stick because he follows the ball but Davies is just as bad. He charges after it like a little puppy, but he’s very slow so he rarely gets near and is then too slow to get back in position, leaving us vulnerable. He also anticipates pretty much nothing, meaning he’s rarely in the right position at the right time. So yeah, average. Not a player where I think to myself “he must play every week because he’s just that good”. He’s got time to improve but I really don’t see him becoming anything other than average. Romey 1878
Still just don’t get it with this lad. I really don’t. Exactly unless we start Shaq O'niel none of our midfielders are going to have a lookin with balls wizzing over their heads. Once a game of football breaks out where actually try to pass the ball to each other, Tom, and the other midfielders will be able to show their ability's. markjazzbassist
his form is just not there this year. runs around a lot and throws nasty tackles but he just isn'tt the link between defense and attack that we need. still young so i'm not writing him off, but i think he could use another rest on the bench and give mccarthy or besic a chance. Quinn31
I've been thinking about him a lot lately in regards to his position. This may sound insane, but does anyone think he'd be a very good rightback? He'd need to work on his crossing, but he has some other skills I think would translate well to fullback.
