Bailey
It did kind of happen in slow motion, he'd probably have hooked it out if he'd sprinted, but I can understand his hesitation. Normally in that sort of weird situation it goes in or it stays out, very rare that it takes so long to make its mind up (the ball) so it was a bit of a "rabbit in the headlights" moment when you're not entirely sure what to do instinctively. He could have saved it but he shouldn't have been put in the position he was by Stek's moment of madness. I agree, bit of a hindsight moment. On the whole I though Mori was much better than Jags has been and he did ok. Couple of heart in mouth moments but then he made some crucial blocks and tackles. Palfy
You could see he was a bit nervous, he probably felt this was a bit like make or break, but on the whole he did well and if he can get a run in the team, the nervousness will dissipate and he will continue to improve. Aidan
Never rated him. Not had a good run this season granted, but almost turns his back on a defender in the phase of play on average once a game! That's mental.
smeghead1
He probably expected the ball to go straight in it looked like it was going to, but not his fault Stekelenburg had a brain fart! He made some really important interceptions yesterday and is clearly quicker over ground than Jags I'd stick with him. brisbaneblue
I guarantee Funes Mori will leave in the off-season barring some miracle patch of form. Here are my predictions of what will happen and why: 1. Koeman will sign a new starting CB to pair with Williams in either January or in the summer - why? because he knows we desperately need one. I'm hoping this will be Virgil van Dijk. 2. Jagielka will stay on as backup CB occupying a bench spot - why? because he's 34 years old and has 18 months on his contact so he is not going anywhere. 3. Either Galloway or Oviedo will be sold in the summer - why? two doesn't go into one. Galloway is the better player and has more potential but perhaps Oviedo is the one more willing to play second fiddle to Baines. 4. Holgate will continue to occupy a bench spot next season - why? Koeman selects two defenders on the bench every game (one specialist CB and one fullback). Jags will be the former, and Holgate the later. 5. Either Connolly or Pennington will be loaned out but not both (unless Unsworth buys a new CB for the U-23s) - why? both are contracted for next season and we need further depth in defence. 6. Funes Mori won't accept not starting and will be sold for £12 million+ (probably to some mid-table La Liga side) why? he's not willing to lose his spot in Argentina starting XI in the season leading up the 2018 world cup. Leaving our defensive depth to look something like this for next season: RB: Coleman, Holgate, Connolly/Pennington CB: NEW CB, Williams, Jagielka, Holgate, Galloway?, Connolly/Pennington LB: Baines, Galloway/Oviedo, Connolly

Mori should not be sold at any cost imo We've brought in four or more new first team players every season for the past six seasons - we are going to bring in new players regardless of what you say. Mirallas and Funes Mori are the only ones I argue that will be sold in the next 9 months and I've laid out the reasons why above. Unless you're saying that Koeman won't sign a new CB, then you can't fit a new CB, Williams, Jagielka, Funes Mori into two centre back positions (not even taking into account Holgate and Galloway). We've signed a new first team CB every season for the last five years (counting backwards: Williams, Funes Mori, Alcaraz, Stones,

I think both Oviedo will defo be gone, Just isnt prem quality at least not for our long term plans. Very odd that Galloway cant get in the West Brom team though. Win the ball and move it quickly, stands on it too long. Clown-shoes philosophy. We've just sold our ball playing CB, what is required is some muscle that'll win battles further forward to make that a viable option and some hard fighting skill in the middle tomake the easy ball on the deck viable. Mori aint Lescott, and neither are Stones on the ball but both did/do have that extra strength and heading capability, cut our cloth accordingly. Mario Gomez target man please. I'm saying he will be sold, not that I want him to be sold.. and I have outlined all the points with justification as to why he will be sold before Jags or Williams above... IF it's Virgil Van Dijk (a 25 year old, Dutch international who has been one of the top 5 CBs in the league this season), and it's relegating Jags to the bench then I don't see how that is a clueless move. c1982
I have my doubts about Mori; arially he's generally superb, strong and pretty quick which can compensate his sometimes shaky positioning but for a left sided centre back he seems very poor with his left foot - he gives it away and plays us into trouble and increasingly goes long - for a team who struggles to hold the ball up in attack (partly due to our main striker, partly due to lack of movement/support) this just brings the pressure straight back onto us. I can see the great deal of qualities he possesses but I don't see him as a long term answer if we're going to progress. We need to build a partnership - I think Williams will be part of that for the next 2 seasons but i can't see Mori or Jags being his partner. Bill
Mori was getting good comments last year and started well this year, our problems at the back started when Williams was brought in and Mori was basically dropped. Had problems ever since, Koeman should have left well alone. Williams is not the player most people thought he was. c1982
Mori did get a lot of good comments last year but also there were as many who remained sceptical about him. This comment rings very true in my opinion. I think for the most part, he has gotten away with a fair amount of errors because he's the new boy. Next year will be the true test.
