Mogsy
Simple, Joel is playing well, does he deserve to be our first choice when Tim is fit?
Newty82
I say yes as he hasn't done anything wrong and seems to be getting better with each start. So at the moment, yes for Robles. But it's close. If he carries on like this, then it's a definite yes.
markjazzbassist
Robles. If Tim was playing well like last season before he got injured then no. But he wasn't, he looked like shit, so he has to earn a spot back.
BedfordBlue
When Howard got injured I thought we had to buy a keeper but Robles gets better with more game time and deserves to keep his place.
c1982
If Tim goes straight back in it sends out the wrong message... Joel has earned the number one spot and is improving game by game. Romey 1878

Cornish Steve
Joel is winning it 8-0. Quite a turn-around from a few weeks ago. He's fucking shite. His distribution isquite good but he couldn't save a cat from drowning in a paddling pool.We need a new keeper. He also thinks he is a lot better than he is.City nevergotanything on target yesterday if they had it would have rained goals. He will never be our regular first choice keeper and he knows it too which I think is affecting his attitude and confidence. The sooner we can get Marshall in with Hennessey as cover the happier I will be. We need 'keepers like Southall and Mimms not Laurel and Hardy. MC11
He's done ok and think he should be given a longer run in the team. The first sign of trouble though and he's out.
Newty82
Credit to Howard too though. He has been helping and advising him along the way. T'How may fuck up but he's a good pro. Matt

Shukes
At the moment i would still go with Tim as first choice. I think even today Joel shown that his decision making needs improvement...look at Jags clearance. Improving but but first choice.
Paddock
Yep Robles for me . The lads done well . A prolonged run is now needed for him to prove himself. I hope he does and proves me wrong
Sibdane
Hate to say it, but Robles deserves to keep his place. I have a feeling Howard might come back in once healthy though.

I'd rather someone young be making those mistakes with the opportunity to learn from them, than have Howard who clearly hasn't learnt and is still making those mistakes at the end of his career. duncanmckenzieismagic
Just a though but maybe the prolonged break will have done Howard some good and he comes back fresh and focussed and recaptures his form, in that scenario I think he is still the better keeper
Romey 1878
Just a though but maybe the prolonged break will have done Howard some good and he comes back fresh and focussed and recaptures his form, in that scenario I think he is still the better keeper The way I look at it is Howard has only got one or two years left in him at this level anyway, Joel could be our keeper for the next decade (unless we unearth a gem of a keeper from within or elsewhere), so it makes more sense to just keep Joel in and let him grow. The more games he plays the more settled he'll get, and the better he'll be, or the quicker we find out that we do need to spend in this area. If it's the latter then we're not caught short when Howard does leave and aren't scrambling around for someone.
Btay
Joel for me, you can see with every game he is getting confident and it's great having a keeper that commands the area!! Stays big in 1v1 situations as well.
Brett Angel
He's done ok and think he should be given a longer run in the team. The first sign of trouble though and he's out. chalkpie
I wouldn't have said this a few weeks back but.....Joe Hart. I mean Joel. Keep him in there! Looking decent.
Gwlad
Joel, he's looking more confident each game and shouting orders too. Edited February 1, 2015 by Gwlad all over
Toffee_in_LA
Joel has done enough to keep his starting position. Hopefully he continues to grow and improve his game with more playing time
StevO
I love Tim, still think he's one of the best, but Joel has earned the shirt now. It's upto Tim to win it back, if he can!
markjazzbassist
After today I really don't want to see Tim unless Joel screws up. Clean sheets he gets better each match and I love seeing him Marshall the defense now too.
Paddock
Howard will go straight back in when fit. Million per cent.
Matt
Howard will go straight back in when fit. Million per cent. horrible feeling you're right. Will be terrible man management if he does. Romey 1878
chalkpie
I never thought I'd choose Joel over Tim a few weeks back, but I see no reason to take him out at the moment. He is developing quite nicely and the more he plays, the better he looks. His confidence has grown substantially in a short amount of time. The guy looks good! Unfortunately, I think seniority is going to rear its ugly head and we will see TH back in short order. I would bet large sums of shillings that the clean sheets will be a thing of the past, too. I hope I'm wrong.
Paddock
I never thought I'd be wanting Robles in goal for us EVER!!! But the lads doing really well and LONG may it continue. I hope he takes all my snide mocking comments and shoves them right up my arse and becomes a De Gea type number 1 for us. Please prove me wrong Robles lad. Matt
I'm happy he's proving my faith in him was justified, even more importantly, that he stepped up to the plate for the team. As Pad says, long may it continue

Fine post; one goal conceded in the last four league games speaks for itself. I dismissed him completely but loving the humble pie. Seem to be one or two on here who'd rather have their opinions proved right than Everton be successful. Baffling.
markjazzbassist
Agreed mike and pad. I'm so glad he's coming good, we have a decent 6m investment in him and he's young, I really think he could gain steam and be our starter next season. I just hope RM doesn't play favorites and benches Howard. He's back in training though so it could be soon.
