Lowensda
Out of the entire first team squad. Who would you see removed from the squad (RED) Who would you keep (GREEN) Be realistic (Mirallas looks like he's off anyway). Player Age Tim Howard 35 Joel Robles 24 Antolín Alcaraz 32 Leighton Baines 30 Tyias Browning 20 Seamus Coleman 26 Sylvain Distin 37 Brendan Galloway 18 Luke Garbutt 21 Tony Hibbert 33 Phil Jagielka 32 Gethin Jones 19 Jonjoe Kenny 17 Bryan Oviedo 24 John Stones 20 Christian Atsu 23 Ross Barkley 21 Gareth Barry 33 Muhamed Besic 22 Kieran Dowell 17 Darron Gibson 27 Conor Grant 19 Matthew Kennedy 20 Ryan Ledson 17 James McCarthy 24 Aiden McGeady 28 Kevin Mirallas 27 Leon Osman 33 Steven Pienaar 32 Joe Williams 18 Sam Byrne 19 Samuel Eto'o 33 Arouna Koné 31 Romelu Lukaku 21 Conor McAleny 22 Steven Naismith 28 My list would have 12 players leave the already small squad, by my guess, we'd need at least 15 to have a good chance going foward. Realistically, I think we'll get 7 over the course of the next 12 months. Which still isn't good enough. IMO we need another GK. Give Joel more time to see how he gets on, in the Summer look for a first teamer or a backup. 2 CB's. Crucial. Absolutely crucial, we need a starter and a backup for John. A creative player. Again, crucial. We have the talent up top (Rom, Kone & Naismith), we need a first team, proper creative player who can unlock the tightest of defenses. 3 wingers. Again, Mirallas almost certainly gone, McGeady not good enough and nothing to say about Atsu, we need 2 (if not 3) wingers. 2 class starters and possibly a backup? 2 forwards, someone to support and a young but proven up and comer, to go out on loan initially. Alot to buy, will we have the pennies? Who knows. January priority positions peeps?

Pienaar and Gibson stay injured, and I don't think Osman will be back, otherwise I'd keep them. I would keep Howard unless we could get a decent fee for him -- at least 3.5-5 mil. c1982
I'm colourblind so this thread is my worst nightmare! If Roberto's sticking with 4-2-3-1 here's my squad list... Gk - Howard/Joel + another Rb - Coleman/Hibbert + another Lb - Baines/Garbutt/Oviedo Cb - Jags/Stones/Browning or Galloway + 2 more Dm - Besic/Barry/McCarthy/Gibson/Ledson Am - Barkley/Naismith/Osman Wm - Mirallas/McGeady + 2 more Str - Lukaku/Kone + another I make it 7 with the wingers being the area we need to invest highest in. We need to be clever at cb and gk too. Obviously if Mirallas leaves then we need a top replacement as he is by far our best out and out winger. Newty82
I can't do all the colour thing on my phone...I'd happily let go if the following... Gibson...injuries. Never plays. Salary. Pienaar...injuries. Too slow. Salary. Alcaraz...injuries. There the only 3 I could say so far. If money for replacements was no problem... Howard, Hibbert, Osman, Distin, Kone, Eto'o...just because of age.
Matt
For C's benefit, blue means keep (appropriate, no? ), black is let go. Bold after that in response to your comments, Ten Tim Howard 35 Joel Robles 24 Antolín Alcaraz 32 Leighton Baines 30 Tyias Browning 20 Seamus Coleman 26 Sylvain Distin 37 - Sorry Sylvain, its time to say good bye. A very solid defender for us on the whole, who has been a very good servant. But we need to look forward. Brendan Galloway 18 Luke Garbutt 21 Tony Hibbert 33 - he has stepped up to the plate when required, no need to get rid of him and if anything, should at least be made part of the coaching staff in the youth squads Phil Jagielka 32 Gethin Jones 19 Jonjoe Kenny 17 Bryan Oviedo 24 John Stones 20 Christian Atsu 23 Ross Barkley 21 Gareth Barry 33 Muhamed Besic 22 Kieran Dowell 17 Darron Gibson 27- I'd love him to be fit, he has a real talent. Shame that the talent is encased in a body made of 1mm thick glass. Wages alone are enough to say goodbye. Conor Grant 19 Matthew Kennedy 20 Ryan Ledson 17 James McCarthy 24 Aiden McGeady 28 Kevin Mirallas 27 Leon Osman 33 - special mention for my favourite player. Like Hibbert, he is worth keeping around but not a starter. Hope he gets a coaching contract. Steven Pienaar 32 - same as Gibson. Too expensive to keep around and showing no sign of getting fit. Joe Williams 18 Sam Byrne 19 Samuel Eto'o 33, - so long, farewell, you money-grabbing egotist. Arouna Koné 31 Romelu Lukaku 21 Conor McAleny 22 Steven Naismith 28 Give Joel more time to see how he gets on, in the Summer look for a first teamer or a backup - Agreed 2 CB's. Crucial. Absolutely crucial, we need a starter and a backup for John. - Agreed, a left footer as priority A creative player. Again, crucial. We have the talent up top (Rom, Kone & Naismith), we need a first team, proper creative player who can unlock the tightest of defenses.- Agreed, in fact it's the most important position in my opinion for 2 clear reasons. 1: feed Lukaku with through balls. 2: Give a better option to the DCM / DCs to move the ball forward. 3 wingers. Again, Mirallas almost certainly gone, McGeady not good enough and nothing to say about Atsu, we need 2 (if not 3) wingers. 2 class starters and possibly a backup? - Don't agree. Mirallas may well be off, but McGeady is decent back up (so long as he works like he did at West Ham). I've tried to defend Atsu but he's not been given any real chance and doesn't look like he will get one despite Robertos overly excited announcement of his return. 2 forwards, someone to support and a young but proven up and comer, to go out on loan initially. - Don't agree. We've got a couple of good looking prospects in McAleny and Long. Naismith, Kone... Alot to buy, will we have the pennies? Who knows. - No chance in Jan. Roberto wont spend until the summer January priority positions peeps? AMC, Silva-esq player. Winger second.

AlbanyNYToffee
It's pretty clear this is going to be a very important summer for the club. At minimum the following will/need to leave: Atsu, Distin, Pienaar, Eto'o You could also argue for: Alcaraz, Hibbert, Barry, Gibson, McGeady, Osman, Mirallas, Kone, McAleny Hibbert/Alcaraz/Osman/Gibson decent enough as squad player - cant see them leaving because it will cost way more to find a viable replacement Barry loved by Martinez wont leave McAleny could be sold to Championship team Mirallas/McGeady/Kone - likely to be sold. Need to raise funds somehow. Mirallas will catch a price or decent player swap. McGeady decent tag, Kone decent tag. With that being said we need to bring in: 1 GK, 2 CB, 1 CM, 3 Wingers, 1 Striker - That's going to be very expensive!!!! Average age PL Squad beginning of 2014/15 season: Man City - 28.9 QPR - 27.7 Everton - 27.7 Stoke - 27.5 West Brom - 27.5 Crystal Palace - 27.2 West Ham - 27 Chelsea - 26.9 Hull - 26.6 Burnley - 26.5 Swansea - 26.2 Leicester - 26.2 Aston Villa - 26.2 Sunderland - 26.1 Tottenham - 25.7 Southampton - 25.6 Man Utd - 25.5 Arsenal - 25.4 Liverpool - 25.2 Newcastle - 25.

Makis
I checked those ages and you have to remove all the youngsters from that list who haven't really played a part, including Browning to get to that average age. Just removing Distin and Pienaar who are almost certainly not with us come next season drops that average to 27.1. Take Eto'o off as well and average is down to 26.8. And remember that bringing anyone under that age in would push that average further down. It's more interesting to look at various positions and how we are covered. Do we have immediate needs for certain positions, i.e. is the first choice needing replacement soon? Do we have a replacement already? GK: Howard, Robles Looks like we need a keeper. RB: Coleman, Hibbert. No immediate need, as long as Coleman is not sold. Hibbert is getting on, but we have a few youngsters who can also cover. LB: Baines, Garbutt, Oviedo Well covered if Garbutt signs a new contract. CB: Jagielka, Stones, Distin, Alcaraz, Browning, Galloway Could use someone to replace Distin. Alcaraz is a cheap fourth choice CB. CM: McCarthy, Barry, Besic, Barkley, Osman, Ledson, Naismith Pretty well covered for defensive mid. Barry is getting on and has looked slow but Besc has really stepped up. Ledson will need some playing time eventually. Osman is of limited use but will probably see out his career at Everton. Attacking mid could use more variety but this depends on the type of wide players that are brought in. Wide midfield: Mirallas, McGeady, Oviedo, Pienaar, Osman Our problem area. Even if Mirallas stays there's not much here. Forwards: Lukaku, Kone, Eto'o, Naismith, McAleny Eto'o looks unlikely to stay beyond this season. Kone is getting on and questions remain if McAleny is good enough. Naismith is better suited playing behind the attacker. So we could use someone here. We won't bring in half a dozen or more players first choice players. It's not even a good idea, look at how clubs who do this kind of things struggle.
