Cornish Steve
It'd be nice if we could own it first. But surely that would just take funds away from buying players, etc. It's a trend in business right now to outsource, and it makes a lot of sense. Matt
But surely that would just take funds away from buying players, etc. It's a trend in business right now to outsource, and it makes a lot of sense. With a billionaire owner, does it make sense to pay rent for the foreseeable future on a facility that is ours in every way but the deed, or does it make sense to own the property and not throw money away? Out-sourcing is great on paper, and it's a brilliant way for short term savings (3-5y), but long term it's a waste and usually comes back in-house, with which come the transfer costs involved, retraining, rehiring, etc. and quite often consumes a lot of the savings the out-sourcing was supposed to achieve. Makis
Outsourcing is not necessarily a waste. If you can invest the money saved on something that gives more income than the building rent then it's a good idea.

Louis
Yeah, there's a lot going on. I forgot to mention there were separate academy accommodation facilities planned too.
StevO
I really dont see the renting of the land as a big issue. Ok it would be great to not pay any rent at all, but compared to the value of the site, the rent is very cheap and more than manageable with the turnover the club has. I'm more concerned by what mortgages might be left on GP than the rent on FF. New plans look very impressive.

If you can invest the money saved on something that gives more income than the building rent then it's a good idea. This is true, I was thinking about it purely from my experience and what we're going through now. But, I agree, depending on the type of business it could be beneficial, just in my case it's very short sighted.
Makis
IIRC the rent is less than 1 million pa (800k?). Originally we paid double that but after LCC bought the land the price went down. The site must be at least 20 times more expensive.

The site must be at least 20 times more expensive. Didn't the council buy it for 13m? Even if we bought it and they wanted to make a profit, we could own it within 15 years. Not a massive incentive I know but all the time we develop and facilities on land that we don't own, it makes me uneasy
Makis
I'd say very few companies own their offices. You have to factor in the fact that it costs to own the land as well. Landlord doesn't get to keep the whole rent. And besides, I doubt LCC would cancel the agreement.

And the inflation rate on transfer prices far exceeds the inflation rate on FF rent.
Hafnia
We should own FF done time soon. LCC bailed us out.
