Matt
It's the new generation of flat screens, Mike. Can do Internet, 3D etc. streaming the City game through mine now! They've got a long way to go mind you, like 3D, but they usually have the best screens too
Romey 1878
I've got a smart Blue-ray player (3D too), will eventually get a Smart TV I'd imagine.

Matt
Then I wouldn't bother with the 3D TV just yet, still a new technology and its just not worth extra cash. If you do go for one, get active 3D, much better (and easier on the eyes/head!)

If you do go for one, get active 3D, much better (and easier on the eyes/head!) I'd already decided to wait before getting a 3D TV tbh. Mostly because of the money but also because I thought it'd be better to wait until they've mastered the technology. rubecula
Actually mine is 3D when I want it to be, but I don't as I am not paying extra for 3D channels. One good thing is it turns ordinary pictures into 3D images with the special glasses that came supplied with it. Sometimes it doesn't make a lot of difference but on football it is pretty good. Expensive though as you say. Mine was a present for when I got out of hospital.
MikeO
My first thought was that you'd bought a Sharp TV but came over all dyslexic when you posted the thread title . rubecula and Matt
StevO
Got a smart tv in the bedroom, not 3d though. Was great for iplayer and catch up TV apps. But then sky put it all on the box, and sort of made my tv redundant. Apart from streaming from the lap top for match streams.
Dalziel Kane
I've seen them before but never had a desire to purchase one. We got too many televisions and enough to be going on with. We don't need fancy additions and all it entails for a more enhanced viewing experience.
msloan78
Spoke to my brother in law about possibly buying one (Tesco are selling some decent ones in their sale at the minute), and he reckons you can buy a dongle for your TV which turns it into a Smart TV. Costs about £40 apparently. Edited August 31, 2013 by doc_bump

rubecula
Spoke to my brother in law about possibly buying one (Tesco are selling some decent ones in their sale at the minute), and he reckons you can buy a dongle for your TV which turns it into a Smart TV. Costs about £40 apparently. Bit of a story but my old telly was a big tube really old one so when I was in hospital my family clubbed together to get me a flat screen TV It was a samsung smart tv. Iy had a dongle too. But the TV was crap. So they took it back and sent me this one (Panasonic) no dongle needed but lots of things on the back to plug in things I have an sd card with lots of my favourite music on it and I often plug that in. Dalziel Kane
I sincerely miss the days when television was simple. Just a simple box with a screen and two or three TV stations and a handful of programs all closing down by midnight, and now look at it - fucking mayhem and disorder. I'm not one for modern technologies and too much, is often less.
StevO
I would think the dongle will just make it wireless. The TV will need some form of hard drive to be a smart tv.
Louis
That sounds right to me Steve. If a dongle could do it, people wouldn't use the blu-ray players and games console to watch iplayer.
Matt
a dongle simply allows network / 3G connection, nothing to do with actual apps like iplayer.

StevO
Fair enough, that's one way of doing it then. I think most TVs have a USB port in them anyway.
Matt
Evil ad but apparently TV is going to get even clearer than HD? Mind you, I shouldn't be surprised. I had the same sense of awe when I saw bluray, and DVD...
