Peter H
spitting is worse than retaliating. The most disgusting form of assault I dont fucking care, Jelly deserved a red card, he should keep his cool. He gets paid enough to play football, least he can do is to make sure not to get sent off by kicking a spitting twat. Yes, spitting is horrible but getting into a fight on the pitch is also very bad Romey 1878, SimonButtle, Matt and 1 other

Sibdane
Barkley is winning every header. He and Fellaini winning those in midfield all the time would be spectacular for us.

Pearso
Everyone has a right to stand up for themselves. If someone spits on you the rules of the game go out the window for mine. Sorry to sound like an uncivilized grub but why else should a spitter get away with nothing else but a ban? For which they're still getting paid handsomely anyway, keep in mind. Peter H
Could argue its the rules of football that are flawed. Not natural to keep your cool when spat on in any profession outside of porn. What? Rules state that you are not allowed to spit at anyone and you are not allowed to kick another player. Simples. Its hard to see spitting incidents. Which makes it even more important not to retaliate. Go and complain to the referee instead. File a complaint after the game, get camera evidence and get the spitter banned. Sure, I understand the urge to retaliate. Spitting is disgusting. But you have to be proffessional in the end. Getting an onform Jelavic banned for 3-5 games in the prem could be VERY costly

Steve_E
Nervous week ahead after that performance. Was disappointed not to see Stones. I hope Stones will start against Norwich. I think they'll likely play two up top with van Wolfswinkel and Hooper so I'd play three centre backs. I've liked the 3 at the back look better on ourselves as well in pre-season. c1982
Hopefully jet lag played it's part today and our players were off the pace due to tiredness... am I clutching at straws for positives?! To be fair Betis looked very bright and they would be a really strong team if they could add a natural goal scorer. Overall a really exciting and testing pre-season with the positives outweighing the negatives. I do feel we need at least 2 more players and that's before Fellaini goes (which I think is looking almost enevitable) but I'm optimistic enough and am looking forward to the big kick off... COYB!!! Bailey
Just caught the last 15mins. It was evident even in that time that Betis were playing the ball at a much quicker tempo than us. At one point they took a quick free kick deep in their half and within 2 passes and probably 5 seconds they were attacking our back 4. We have always been awful when teams close us down and with many of the same players we are always going to struggle against teams who play that way. I was hoping we would step up with Martinez at the helm and to be fair to him he has still only had a few weeks to get his philosophy into the players. Get Felli back, a CB who is comfortable on the ball and midfielder that can turn defence into attack quickly.
Matt
Awful first half, average second half. Really hoping its the jet lag and quality opposition we played in the USA that's tired them out. This weeks training needs to be light exercise and intense positioning. Betis can feel very hard done to, but that said our defence stood up to pretty much everything they threw at us. Distin looked solid, Coleman had a good game and Baines grew into it. Jela and Mirallas played very well but should've seen red, Barkley average and also lucky to be on the pitch. MOTM is Howard though, would've been an embarrassing defeat but for his contribution. I want Cedric signed on that performance alone!

Id like to see both Barkley and Stones starting. Stones in the back 5, Barkley and Felli (or Gibbo if he's sold) in midfield with pienaar and mirallas crossing to Jelavic or Kone. Guest
Thought we looked tired today. We have just played three games in a week against top opposition in really hot temperatures. Not going to be too harsh on the boys however, its clear that Martinez wants his defensive midfielders to be comfortable on the ball at all times and I'm a bit worried about that. Somebody like Eva Banega would fit the bill because im not sure we have the players if Felli goes and I think its crucial to the way we want to play. I wouldn't have played Jags for the full 90 today as i'm sure he will play for England on Wednesday and that's a lot of games for him. I would play 5-2-3 against Norwich if Gibbo isn't fit I'd play Peanuts alongside Felli with Ross,Super and Jelly up top
Guest
Still think we need to spend some dough to freshen up the squad. I'd really like a Victor Moses type and a tough tacking beast in midfield. Got to say Cedric looked mint today
