Bill
I appreciate he may be able to play both positions, but its crazy how after one game people are bulling him up claiming he's the messiah who's going to lead us into the promised land. I have always pushed for Stones and Oviedo to be given more game time and i'm glad for them, but lets not get carried away.
Romey 1878
I hear Alcaraz is injured again . His groin this time, and 4 weeks.
Quinn31
I remember reading that he could be the best Bosman of the summer IF he stays fit. It seems him staying a fit is a real challenge, or at least over the past year or so. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Quinn31
hope hes only on a pay as you play, or really basic deal Almost certain he's not on a pay as you play. I can't imagine very many Premier League footballers are on those deals.

Quinn31
we did it with Saha, was just hoping the same common sense wouldve been applied to another injury prone player It was pay as you play for the transfer fee I believe, not wages. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Louis-Saha-I-told-Everton-I-would-pay-for-free-article38362.html

weebittight
Long term absentees of pick up subsiduary injuries when returning. Yes - Stones was playing regular football for Barnsley at RB but has been tipped to be a central defender. Looks like he is not far off ready based on the glimpses I have seen. Cornish Steve
I'm excited about this. We've played the same four defenders all season, and we need to start playing others in that role. Alcaraz is a good strong defender, and I look forward to him playing soon.
Guest
I' m quite excited to think we have another open at the back. Although stones is going to be a star I like the idea of jags and dystin worrying about their position. Roberto obviously rates him highly and I'd like to think he could be a Richard gough figure (I wish)

Romey 1878
Is there any update on this, its nearly 19:00 now, is he still fit? I believe they run hourly fitness tests on him so no news is good news! MikeO

markjazzbassist
Wow, so sad. He plays 3 matches and had to rest. Sounds like he is a bench player for sure and just to be used in rotation. Get well Alcaraz, you looked good on the pitch.

Peter H
RM was probably forced to play him before a full recovery. Im sure that when he is fully recovered he will stay fit
Hafnia
He's off for 2 weeks with muscle fatigue. Martinez is a qualified physio, probably a precautionary absence. He has played a few games when he should have been used sparsely.
bassman
Three Fu**ing games and muscle fatigue! Bollocks! I am 60 years old, give me his wages and I will play 10 games!! Looked great in what he did, but really pissed me off hearing this crap! not fully recovered my arse! he is a professional athlete for god sake! If he was not capable, don't bloody play him! wait till he IS capable. cue the abuse !

They need to be managed right, he had 3 months out, any imbalances in the muscles will result in tears. Paul McGrath, Lesley king, Duncan Ferguson, RVP needed tailored training. It's not mind over matter, it's now a case of managing the players physiology intelligently. He is what is considered a higher risk player when it comes to injuries. markjazzbassist
yeah and honestly it was the right move. jags and distin were injured so it was stones and alcaraz in there. what are you going to do, rest alcaraz and put heitinga in there? antolin played well and helped us get the results and now jags is back and he will miss 2 weeks (west brom, stevenage). distin should be back any day now so well have 3 centre backs. for the little we pay antolin (free transfer as well) it's not that big of a deal. efc1111
It's a shame for him as he has looked classy in his games so far, slotting in effortlessly alongside Distin and then helping John Stones through his first starts, but it's hardly surprising that he needs some recovery time after playing three games in quick succession. He had months out recovering from injuries and operations and we're lucky that he was able to fit seamlessly into the team, and it's good timing that Jags was fit for this weekend's game. I suspect that he would have played again yesterday if Jags wasn't available, but better that he gets some recovery time rather than keep pushing and risk injury. bassman
Hmm, I have looked up muscle fatigue, not what I was expecting, so my previous comments were totally out of order! Matt
shame, hes been like a new signing and his 3 performances had (or very nearly had) my MOTM. Hoping we will see more of him. Lowensda
I've been surprised. Thought it was a very 'meh' signing. Already showed that when fit, can be a capable stand-in.
