MikeO
Campbell in '99 is right, Jelavic earlier this year and Kanchelskis in '96. Rest are wrong (although someone has a right player in a wrong month).

Can't think of 09'... was 09' when Donovan had his first spell?

gethinO
Bit of a long shot but is it Jags? When Yobo went off to african nations he started playing, and he was amaizing for a few months. Doubt it would be a defender though so probably wrong. Dalziel Kane
Just a quick question (or two) but - #1 Which lower league side caused an upset by beating us in the FA cup on this day in years past. They had a long standing manager who was fired a few years after, which upset a lot of supporters. #2 This weekends opposition Oldham Athletic had one of their biggest achievements in club history and news stories of the season with a 6 - 0 win in a cup tournament on this day in years past. Who were the opposition and what competition.

Dalziel Kane
It's not Shrewsbury Town, but it was before that in time, but not too far back. It was a very significant upset at the time. I'll give it a while longer, but some will remember #2. A club side I don't like too much had a heavy defeat that day, is all I'll add on this. c1982
can only think of Shrewsbury Town for #1. No idea for #2 without google #1 I remember Port Vale beating us at theirs after a replay - maybe John Rudge was the long serving manager? Or Tranmere and Ronnie Moore. Or last guess would be Stockport and Dave Jones (but not sure if they actually beat us)?!
Dalziel Kane
It was Port Vale in 1996. They beat us 2 - 1 in a replay on this day 17 years ago now !, when we were FA cup holders. Rudge had been manager since 1984. Tbe other was West Ham United in the league Cup semi finals of 1989/90 Oldham won the first game 6 - 0 then lost in Essex, sorry, London, by 0 - 3 in the return, to make the final. They actually had a very good team at the time and won the league title the year after.

I was sat at GP on what I remember to be a horrible cold rainy day behind the goal where Ian Bogie scored the last minute equaliser - I can see it looping in over Southall's (?) head in slow motion now! Dalziel Kane
I remember the game, and think Gary Ablett scored that day of all things. But one of their players, as mentioned, did get an equalizer in the last minute, and just as with Stockport in the third round, we couldn't beat a lower league side, but this time went out in a replay. They lost to Leeds in the fifth round. could have gone a long way that year with the players available, especially as we did so well from February to May in the league, but it wasn't to be. At least Liverpool lost the final if nothing else.

Dalziel Kane
Think they've all been answered and put in place now. Player in question (from directly above) was (Marco) Materazzi. He was Walter Smiths first signing if can think back ?
