I'm beginning to think the Everton management team gauges our reactions before finalizing a decision. This is not the first time...

Palfy
Can a manager pull rank on a director? He can if they don't want him to walk, and Koeman's done a lot of walking in the past.
London Blue
Walsh is there to get the type of players Koemans wants. If Koeman says no about someone then they don't get signed.
Newty82
Yeah, remember that Walsh and Koeman work together not against each other.
markiediow
Hopefully we forget about Niang. Lapadula would be the better buy from AC Milan for around the same money, he would suit pressing game better.
Paddock
Can a manager pull rank on a director? No idea mate, it was sort of an open question to see peoples thoughts. Mine would be that they identify targets, Walsh finds them but Koeman ultimately has the deciding vote as it's his team. I could be wrong like. Romey 1878
Can a manager pull rank on a director? I would hope so seeing as the manager is the one that actually has to get the team playing, and will be the one that gets sacked first if it goes tits up. StevO
I've no idea myself. In any other business a director out ranks a manager. Being the first time we've had a director of football I've no idea how the club see the hierarchy. Edited June 18, 2017 by StevO
Bailey
I would hope a DoF and manager would have spoken together before even pursuing the player. Why waste all of that time money and effort? Sibdane
aaron
Manager > Director of Football. (going by Footy Manager that is)
Haiku
Depends on who the club trust more. I know clubs where DOF is higher in the club's hierarchy than the manager and others where the manager has the last word. I think we're the latter. Newty82
I think you guys need to go and read/listen to Walsh's words on the subject of what they do. They work together.
markjazzbassist
agreed newty. i think if this doesn't come off it could be a simple journo mistake. he was at watford, we were in milan talking to italian clubs, they put 2+2 together and thought he was here. is there any visual evidence that he was ever at Finch Farm? Shukes
I think you guys need to go and read/listen to Walsh's words on the subject of what they do. They work together. Was thinking the same thing. They even asked Koeman directly... he answered along the lines of, we discuss targets and then Walsh goes out to try to get them. Makis
DoF's job is to identify and hire the manager (last summer was an exception as we only got a DoF last summer) so I would say he's the boss.

That's one model for it, for sure. But, all we have is contextual evidence to indicate what Walsh's role at the club vis-à-vis Koeman is. It seems, from what I've seen, that Walsh is some sort of chief scout and recruiter and that he works in tandem with Koeman to make decisions. It seems, structurally, more democratic/egalitarian and less hierarchical than the director of football/head coach system.

Matt
Couldn't care less. They've brought in good to great quality (time will tell on all of them, I'm ignoring my ideas on players). So long as the right players come in and we win, who fucking cares.
