stokieinpeace
First of all I think everton are a great club and one I feel for during your current financial situation. I came on to ask you about a big rumour doing the rounds both in stoke and on the stoke forum(the oatcake) which involves one of your players - Leighton baines. The rumour is that he is going to be joining us for £10 million. I personally think he is out of our league, but wanted to come on here and ask you the following : How good is Leighton baines?(qualities, weaknesses etc) How important is he to everton? Would you sell him for £10 million? Finally, is there any chance of this being true? One last thing, another rumour is that you are after Ricardo fuller. Personally I would hate this. The man is a genius and not a "big lump" as some evertonians have described him as! He is loved by some fans and probably the best player that I have ever seen play for stoke. Thanks
MikeO
How good is Leighton baines?(qualities, weaknesses etc) How important is he to everton? . Would you sell him for £10 million? Finally, is there any chance of this being true? At his best the best in the country. Vital. No. Triple it and we'd answer the phone to say no. No.
The Beard
How good is Leighton baines?(qualities, weaknesses etc) If he played in London he would have had more England caps than he has. Week in week out we can all see he is better than Cole and that isn't being biased. How important is he to everton? At the moment probably our most creative player and even he has had his blips. His attacking play is so pivotal to our all round attacking play. The problem being teams will suss that out and counteract it. Would you sell him for £10 million? He is worth three times that for his attacking qualities alone. If he was going anywhere I am sure it would only be to Man Utd or Arsenal or Abroad Finally, is there any chance of this being true? Heard nothing about it up here BUT rumours have to start somewhere. Cheers Edited January 5, 2012 by The Beard
Matt
At his best the best in the country. Vital. No. Triple it and we'd answer the phone to say no. marcopaulo
fuller looks ok at times but certainly no better than what we have(and that is sayin summat) as for baines...best left back in the country i think easily..at his best obviously 10m is a joke price as said..3 times that on current player rates and no offence to stoke but if he were to go it would be to a big big club or rich club such as city, utd, arsenal etc
pete0
True, but If you get the ball to him he's unplayable On his day he's good no arguing that, but for me he would be after xmas Yakubu.
Hafnia
I like Fuller personally - very underrated player. There isn't many better than Baines in the world in his position £30m is the starting price as City would snap him up as he is far better than Clichy. EFC-Paul
Hi bud welcome Baines as said on his day is top class he's been abit off for me of late but that's pretty much a given considering the shite we've been playing of late. He's integral to us having any chance of moving forward if we build around and with him and in terms of price as said in todays market he's a 30m+ player. No offense as said but if Baines goes it will be to a bigger club plus the above would be out of Stokes reach at a guess. Not a big fan of Fuller he was a very lazy git for North End and I've seen him first hand training many a time and I'm not a fan of his work ethic tbh
Romey 1878
This thread has cheered me up after last night. What a joke to suggest Baines could go for £10million. Jog on, Delilah.
stokieinpeace
I didn't say it would happen. I said that was the rumour. I'm not trying to offend anyone . I'm just your asking your opinions. Personally I don't expect it to happen, but it wouldn't surprise me given your financial situation. But I think your in for a shock if you expect 30mil+ for him

Thanks Laughing at this. Is it a serious question or is it just a bit of banter? Baines will almost definitely leave us soon, but it won't be for £10m and it is unlikely it would be to Stoke. We are holding him back with our current situation, and he has the potential to be a world star in the same breath as the Rooney's and Ronaldo's of the world. He is not only one of the best Left Backs around, but he is probably one of the best dead ball specialists too, and would probably justify a record signing for us. Is it still raining in Stoke? scouse
He is our best player and I don't believe a move to stoke would be a step forward for him, as said if he leaves it will be for a top 4 club and for alot more than the 10 mill mooted. As for Fuller he is a player we have been linked with n numerous accotions but for me it would be a sad day if we signed Stokes 4th choice striker. He might not have the class of some players but defenders know they have been in a game against him and he knows where the goal is. Its a bit painful to say this, but he would probably be our first choice striker if he came here... Edited January 5, 2012 by Bailey
Dalziel Kane
Maybe I don't take in as many matches and attend Goodison as some others these days and get to see the players on such a regular basis but I sincerely don't estimate Leighton to be worth up to £30,000,000, trouble is, prices for players today are bloody nonsense, how can you put a valuation on any one player when players like Andrew Carroll go from Tyneside to Redshiteside for £35,000,000 or an out of sort Fernando Torres warrants a £50,000,000 selling price, prices today are crazy, maybe I'm a bit disillusioned with it all, but I strongly feel £30 Million pounds sterling for Baines is a bit suspect, Yes, he's a very good player and we aren't going to sell him to Stoke or anyone else but I can't agree with the valuation in any event. Bottom line is, £10,000,000 not enough, £30,000,000, too much, I'll play it safe and say Baines is worth somewhere in between. It's simply how I view it, if anyone wants to agree or disagree that's all very good but that's how I feel about it And while I'm at, why do Stoke supporters feel the need to sing Tom Jones songs, was Stoke part of Wales once and shifted to the Midlands?, I don't get it
FanchesterCity
Baines is a fantastic player, would probably make left back for any team in the country, barring Chelsea, and possibly City - arguable point, but I think he'd get games at City too, just not every week thanks to rotation and formation. 30 million for him? no. 20 million yes. As a selling club (i.e. if he was in your team, I think you could ask for 25, if you were the buying team, you'd be reluctant to pay that for a 27 year old left back). I could see him going for about 23 million though. In my opinion, like others have said, he's probably one of the best left backs in the country, and on his day THE best. Not comparable with Cliche - who's a different sort of player. For 90% of teams Baines would be the better player. Only the very top teams 'might' (and I use that word cautiously) opt to take a slightly less capable defender but one with more pace. He won't go to Stoke. If you want to compare silly prices like Andy Carroll, then sure, he's worth more than Carroll, without any doubt, but the market seems to be settling down again now and the price hikes less frequent. Dalziel Kane
If Carroll is worth £35,000,000 to Newcastle in 2011 then what the fuck would we have charged for a William Ralph Dean of 1927? Player valuations today are crazy
Avinalaff
Market settling down? Because City have bought everybody. There's nobody left to sell or buy lol.
Bailey
In our position financially if anything above £15mil was offered I think we would have to take it.
Adam Partington
Being where I'm from. If Baines signs for Stoke, I'll commit. Seriously.
FanchesterCity
Still plenty of good players around, but until Everton's future is more clearly defined I don't think they are as attractive as they could be. Once that's sorted, and Everton are seen to be buying again, many players would want to play for Everton. But Baines to Stoke - no disrespect to Stoke, but Baines is a local lad, best player at the club (imo), looks totally settled.... it would have to be a real fire sale from Everton for it to happen, and there'd be more clubs chomping at the bit for him. It'll take probably another 5 years of Stoke doing well before they get taken seriously as a club to head for when your career is on the 'up' (talking Prem to Prem transfers) - unfair I know, but their reputation is still largely negative (unfairly) and seen as a 'aren't they doing well!' type team, in my opinion.
