Hafnia
Messi all the way, clear winner. Follwed by Xavi and Iniesta - almost boring! David Silva will and should be in frame next year.
Lowensda
It's the same names. Too bloody obvious all the time. Player nominees: Eric Abidal (France), Sergio Aguero (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Dani Alves (Brazil), Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Cesc Fabregas (Spain), Diego Forlan (Uruguay), Andres Iniesta (Spain), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Muller (Germany), Nani (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil), Mesut Ozil (Germany), Gerard Pique (Spain), Wayne Rooney (England), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Luis Suarez (Uruguay), David Villa (Spain), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Xavi (Spain). Based on last season? Should be Messi, with Ozil and *edited* will go for Neymar as the other. Coach nominees: Vicente Del Bosque (Spain/Spain national team), Sir Alex Ferguson (Scotland/Manchester United), Rudi Garcia (France/Lille), Pep Guardiola (Spain/Barcelona), Jurgen Klopp (Germany/Borussia Dortmund), Joachim Loew (Germany/Germany national team), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Real Madrid), Oscar Tabarez (Uruguay/Uruguay national team), Andre Villas-Boas (Portugal/Porto, Chelsea), Arsene Wenger (France/Arsenal). Rudi Garcia for me; Winning the title with Lille. AVB for his time at Porto maybe? Edited November 1, 2011 by tenaciousj
EFC-Paul
Messi will win without question really, I think Forlan has been for the last few seasons a class act both at club and international level. Why the hell is Wenger on that list other then Runner up in the League cup He's done nothing but whine and talk bollocks about "mental strength" for the past few seasons. Pep should take it on silverware but Klepp and Garcia both did well last year Edited November 1, 2011 by EFC-Paul
StevO
i hope Ronaldo wins it. i like messi, i really do, just cant stand Barca. Klopp, that Dortmund team is brilliant and loads of kids. Remind me of the united team in the 90's
GoodisonRoad
Messi will win it, best player i've ever seen. But i dont think Abidal and Alves deserve to be in there. I watch quite a bit of Barca and Alves didnt have a great season last year in all honesty, he got found out quite a few times, and Abidal is just a solid, good player, playing in an amazing team. would have maybe liked to have seen a few Dortmund players like SteveO said, Gotze and Kagawa were immense for them last season, although the latter did have a bad injury which ruled him out for a while. Avinalaff
It's as big a farce as the X-factor to be honest Matt. How on earth can some of these players be on a short list ? Rooney, Nani (Man Utd), Luis Suarez (Liverpool) and Sergio Aguero (Man City) are the other England-based players named. Rooney started the season well, but has been shite in recent weeks, so much that I sold him from my fantasy team. Nani has been so hit or miss, that I wondered why I'd bothered signing him, and Aguero might have put a few goals in, but the player who has been head and shoulders the best player in the Premiership is not on the list. For me, that player is David Silva. Silva has been outstanding in every department this year, and deserves recognition far more than some on that list, even if Suarez has been good. Lowensda
Agree with SIlva. It's a mystery as to why he's not on that list. Unbelievable. It's a popularity contest as you say, rather than one based on merit or achievments.
StevO
Ha, complete opposite for me! Messi by miles, the man is a magician i dont disagree that he is a magician, i think the majority of the barca squad are just outstanding! but the way they dive, play act and badger the ref just kills me. they dont need to do it, they have so much ability they can beat teams without that. if they never did this i would worship them, but they do, so i dont. That's what makes it unworthy of any serious consideration. Same players, same clubs, same awards.

That Irish lads goal last year was the best year by far but didnt win (the back-heel volley to the top corner, though cant remember the lads name)
Matt
Another little statistical gem for you all as the second halves draw near, people... little Argentine genius Messi has, surprisingly considering all the great players to have graced the Camp Nou, become only the second Barcelona player to reach 200 goals. And he's still only 24. Wow. Cesar is the other after netting 235 times between 1939 and 1955. Obviously. errrr, thats one hell of a stat! edit: scratch that, 201 202 goals..... codders78
Messi for me, its obvious but who else is even close to him anywhere in the world? Klopp for coach/manager - done a fantastic job with limited resources

pete0
hes a cheat and therefore loses so much credibility He's slowly cut out/down on the cheating. Messi plays for the biggest cheats in Europe and although he doesn't as such he gets a lot more help than Ronanldo does
StevO
hes a cheat and therefore loses so much credibility they both cheat, as do both of their teams, but one team does it a lot more. the same can be said of Xavi and Iniesta, both awesome, but both dive like Tom Daly. Messi plays for the biggest cheats in Europe and although he doesn't as such he gets a lot more help than Ronanldo does No doubt Barcelona are cheaters but Messi usually goes down because hes taken out. Even if Ronaldo is taken out he cries like a bitch with a scrapped knee and tries to get the player booked/sent off. Messi is usually up on his feet and trying to run at the goal again. pete0
Im sure i read somewhere that he has a 250m buy out clause. Ronaldos is the most expensive player ever. Prices adjusted for inflation, he cost 20% more than the next.
