I don't think we would have spent 45m on a set piece specialist when we don't have a target man. i really think RK thought he was a Barkley upgrade. If that was ever the plan the Koeman needs sacking pronto!
c1982
I really don't understand why we bought him. Hope I'm proved wrong but I really don't get it. pete0 and Romey 1878

I was one - happy to sign him as he's a quality player but clearly not what we need/needed. £45m worth of wingers, even with the other players we have, could have been much wiser acusitions. We have Bolasie, Lookman, Vlasic and Mirallas to be wingers. Siggy is is similar to Rooney with clever passes, and creativity.

Matt
He was signed for this workrate (which is aimless at the moment) and his deadball ability, which is pointless when there's no fucking striker to hit. We'll see the best out of him IF we actually sign a forward and play him centrally. Otherwise his talent is a complete waste. EFC-Paul
The lad is being restricted in this set up, he's not given the creative freedom in this fruitless set up he was at Swansea He's a proven player who will come good with a handful of the other lads if given the right platform Matt and markjazzbassist

Just making the point that people seem willing to forgive far worse performances from some of our latest signings than what Barkley was getting shut for last season Let me make that argument for the argument's sake: Sigurdsson has played how many matches for Everton? 7? He didn't get a full preseason is and is probably still trying to get up to full match fitness. Barkley has played 180 matches for Everton. I think the problem with Barkley lies in his decision making, not his technical ability. Will that improve or is he just never going to be able to make those key decision of pass vs shoot vs dribble? Believe me, I want to see Barkley come back and fight for the shirt. We are missing his creative spark, even if he can be quite wasteful. Bailey
I was expecting quality from Siggurdson but I haven't really seen it yet. He can get himself into some decent positions but he doesn't seem to be able to take advantage of it. Barkley was the opposite.
nogs
I think they're different players to be fair. For me Sigurdsson should be playing in centre mid, his main quality is his passing. He is never going to run with the ball like Barkley can. But so far Koeman has played Sigurdsson as a forward / AM. If he's Barkley's replacement I don't think we're getting an upgrade. Romey 1878
This signing is actually making less and less sense to me with each passing game.

Then Siggurdson isn't the right player for us. a player that needs to be playing for a certain manager to keep himself fit... simply isn't professional. i k ow match fitness is different, but there is a level even ameteur players can keep up alone. Hafnia
The purchase and use of Siggy is enough of a reason to sack koeman. He spends £45m to buy a player to replace one that he has ostracized to the point of him leaving for free and then plays him out wide. Fuckin baffling. It's a bit like letting a range rover go to rust on the drive because it's not good enough on the motorway and then buying an Aston Martin and using it for a run around. Not as good as Gana at breaking play up, offers nothing going forward. I mean the gulf between him and a 36 year old Barry is unbelievable. That's the big worry tho isn't it - Martin's actually assembled a very handy looking side, he just refused to pay attention to defence. It now looks frighteningly like Koeman has ripped that team apart and replaced it with utter shite.

Again, Gana's passing today was dreadful.
