Most one sided shoot-out ever in the Confederations Cup just now? Chile score, Portugal saved, Chile score, Portugal saved, Chile score, Portugal saved. Game over.

Portugal kept Ronaldo back for their fifth one .

Those penalty takers weren't great, but they all at least hit with power. Rui Patricio was godlike for a minute. I know he's been at Sporting almost his entire career, but I wouldn't be surprised if that performance gets him a move.

Made me laugh that one of the commentators mentioned how good Sanchez' penalty was. It was probably the worst of the lot and been easily saved had the keeper gone the right way!

That's like saying, could easily have been saved if the keeper got a hand to it aha. Penalties are all or nothing. A good penalty is scored. A bad penalty is missed or saved. A great penalty is a rocket in a corner or a cheeky af chip.

defoe officially signed for bournemouth. they're completed the Nathan Ake deal too. Very good transactions so far, i have a soft spot for them, i like Eddie Howe and they're small club so i root for them (when they're not playing us of course). I think they could surprise some people this year and end up in the top 7. Begovic, Defoe, Ake, just need a solid centre mid and they've got a nice little squad.

No not having it.

Professional footballer 12 yards out should be sticking it in the corner every time, or high into the roof of the net at the least.

bar Vidal's penalty if the keeper goes the right way he saves it. Vidal's was unreal, pace, bend, side netting the rest were absolute filth for players of their calibre.

seems like every week we read about another player like this. is gambling that big in england? it's barely even a thing here in the states.

It is. Gambling is a huge problem; national lottery is a part of it, see so many people who plainly can't afford it laying out wads of cash because they believe they're going to be millionaires. I was against it from the start and still am despite the fact that it funds "good causes"; it funds good causes on the back of misery.

Then there are Fixed Odds Betting Terminals in bookies nowadays which eat money and are a dreadful thing. Bingo sites are endemic on the web, more crap promising people riches and then fleecing them.

Got no problem with people spending money they can afford to lose on horses/dogs/football but it's everywhere; endless TV ads pulling you in. I don't gamble at all so it's not an issue for me but the current situation was predicted many years ago and it's happened.

wow, yeah we have a lottery here in the states but it's not taken that seriously. like when it gets to be 300 million people will buy a ticket but it's more for a "lucky shot" than actually trying and buying up lots of em. other than that it's just casinos and those are only legal in states where gambling is legal. even then, its just diehards in there, most people don't go there unless its a destination city (vegas, atlantic city, etc) and even then it's more about the food, shows, exhibits, than gambling. there are horse tracks too but those things are graveyards, just the diehards there and they barely stay afloat often changing hands a lot just to reinvigorate and try and make a profit. i work down the street from a horse track and the only way they get people there now is they offer business people lunches (aka buffet for cheap) and have concerts. i doubt the track is making any money.

strange, is it a cultural thing in england? seems like i see guys on here all the time "got a fiver barkley to score" which has always struck me as strange.

Yeh it's huge. Most lads I know do their bollocks every weekend, clinging on to the big win they had 5 years ago.

The FBOTS Mike mentioned are the worse. You play long enough you will lose and people feed money in them all day.

Reading the Birmingham mail, gone through who he is and how wolves came to sign him, at the bottom of the article is this ....

Anyone else interested?

Nobody of note, just Liverpool, Chelsea and Juventus.

PS .. suppose I ought to post the link cos people don't take my word for it.
