Matt
They were relegated last week. markjazzbassist
There's a feature on it on BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04kzzgg/the-womens-football-show-2014-episode-7 9mins 30 seconds in Rachel Brown says it's partly down to Everton remaining semi-pro while other clubs are turning professional. The manager agrees and says that some players work 9-5 and turn up for training. so this stems from the team not being able to pay them living wages? surely with all the money they make from the men's TV deal they could throw a few thousand quid to the ladies to beef up their salaries and make them pro. MikeO
Liverpool nicked the title today (with two of their three goals coming from long standing Everton players, Dowie & Williams) while Chelsea and Birmingham failed to get the win that would have kept them ahead. Not nice to be asset stripped, relegated and then see the dark side steal the silverware, whatever the gender of the players . As has been said, a small investment for us to go full time would be petty cash to the club, hopefully we hit back next year.

MikeO
agreed, strange that promotion and relegation doesn't exist for women's leagues. i wonder why. It does exist, this is just a one-off due to Notts County folding and a place opening up. The "spring series" was a holding thing while the women's league changed dates; my money is on us getting relegated btw, we'll be lucky to get a point given the money some clubs have invested. Are we still part-time? Crazy how we went from being one of the best sides to letting other clubs take all our best players because we weren't putting as much the ladies side. Surprised the club haven't offered to at least match her wages for a year at least. You can't be a "full time professional" if you're still working as a teacher though. Quite possible that the club have offered her a good wage but she just enjoys teaching more than football, who knows? Just now, Bill said: Got battered really, 5 shots at goal compared to their 25 shots, they were way ahead of us on all the stats except one, we committed more fouls than them. It was much closer at half time (the last I looked). AS LB said above, avoiding relegation would be a massive achievement this season given how far we've fallen behind the teams that've poured money in over the last few years, Liverpool being one. No shame in that loss tonight, conceding fewer than their male equivalents and at least they had five shots; I don't think the lads have had that many in a game thus far.
