MikeO
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/8567353.stm Shame for him. I don't think it'll seriously affect our chances...won't win it without him but we wouldn't have won it with him .
holystove
Sad news for him but I don't see how an AC Milan squad player could have a big influence on England winning the WC. LA Galaxy must be kicking themselves they allowed him to stay at Milan longer. Surely they won't ever do that again with any of their other players . troy8
Gutted for him as I thought he deserved one last crack at the World Cup. He did manage to recover from a broken metatarsal just before the 2002 World Cup, hopefully another miracle will happen for him.
marcopaulo
same as for me...feel sorry for beckham he's been great for england and would have been nice for him to play in 1 last world cup but it doesn't really alter our chances that much.. Matt
Good to see that Capello wont necessarily close the door on him completely: England coach Fabio Capello, who has yet to finalise his squad for the World Cup, said Beckham would be a loss for the finals in South Africa but added he believed he could return to the England set-up. "We hope he will be fit for the next year," Capello told Sky Sports News. "I hope he will be fit for the Euros, next qualifying. He's always one of the best payers in England." He will be a big loss to us this summer. Even if he wasnt going to play, he is a huge presence and charactor to have in the squad, i hope he travels with the squad anyway just for those 2 reasons alone.... Romey 1878
Well it was reported today that Capello has invited Beckham to travel with the team to the World Cup, so he should still be able to have some influence (if he accepts the offer obviously).
