holystove
i'll admit i know nothing about witsel, would rather defour. can any belgian shine a light? defour is so much better. witsel disappears during games and has somewhat of an attitude problem. first game of the season he missed a last minute penalty (score tied at 2), people entered the box too quickly so the penalty had to be retaken.. witsel pushed everyone away and said he'll retake it, then missed again. last year he was often in discussions over whose turn it was to take the penalty with Jovanovic, resulting in shoving etc. .. he does have very good feet and can make the game look so easy .. also a year younger than defour, although defour at witsel's age was already much better. wouldn't pay more for him than € 5-6m. Well , sadly , Defour has an "agreement" with the club that if a "BIG" club comes knocking that he'll be allowed to leave if the price is right. Teams mentioned are the likes of Madrid, Liverpool, etc .. Everton is not in that category so Moyes will have to over-bid to get him now. It sucks because I'm convinced he would be great at Everton (only downside is that he'll show up Fellaini making all Toffees realize that Everton overpaid for the wrong Liege player last year ). Maybe next year!
jamiemaher85
I think the chances over us being able to "over-bid" for any player. I doubt we can ever afford a bid at a players real cost!

holystove
Witsel. This happened a couple of hours ago : http://i29.tinypic.com/33e1wfd.gif Don't think he'll be transferred during what will probably be a long long suspension .. Neil S
Witsel. This happened a couple of hours ago : http://i29.tinypic.com/33e1wfd.gif Don't think he'll be transferred during what will probably be a long long suspension .. Seen worse tackles (taylor/eduadro). After watching it I don't think there was an intent to cause an injury, but it was reckless.
DonKey
You are joking aren't you?!?!?1 He went right over the top of the ball, and stamped straight through the lads shin. If it'd been Gerrard doing the same we'd be calling for capital punishment to be reinstated. Awful challenge, and just hope the lad he's melted is able to recover!!!! If you watch the play he turns away at the last moment. I'm not saying it's not a bad tackle, or that he shouldn't get a long ban, but I believe he didn't go out to injure the player. the_toffee_bronco
Witsel. This happened a couple of hours ago : http://i29.tinypic.com/33e1wfd.gif Don't think he'll be transferred during what will probably be a long long suspension .. wow thats as bad a broken leg as i think I have ever seen on the field. Hope the lad recovers.
Calico
No way. He turns his head so it's not as bad? It was a stamp! To call that terrible technique is not only letting him off lightly but also not being harsh enough; it would be called f*cking awful technique. neck79davio
Ouch. I think there's at least a bit of intent there... I know games can heighten the testosterone levels but.... Did he get sent off?
Lowensda
There's intent there. That is fucking disgusting. worse break ive ever seen, his leg is dangling. Feel so sorry for him, i hope him he speediest recovery!
StevO
did that happen to witsel or did he do it to someone else?
thehelmet
I think from pictures Davies on Anichebe looked just as bad, only lucky that he hit as far up on Victor as he did. I had a friend break his leg similar to this, only he was tackled slightly from the side and then another player straight on, snapped both of the larger bones in his leg. Hopefully it's a clean break and he can have a speedy recovery and continue to play.

Churinga2
Witsel and even defour have received several death threats from Anderlecht and Polish fans (Wasilevski plays for the polish national team) sad sad story
Everton_Worshiper
I have watched is loads of times, it doesn't look real the way his leg flops about! Really hope the guy makes a good enough recovery to carry on playing in the future.
holystove
Ruling came down today : Suspended for 10 games and a €2500 fine (I'm guessing that's less than a day's wages) .. Not harsh enough imo. Edited September 1, 2009 by holystove

Calico
Think it's a shame players in our leagues don't get punished even that much.
Everton_Worshiper
Has Defour been interviewed by the press over the tackle? Have there been any quotes from him on what happened?
jcrawfor
He should be banned for life. No question. That is the worst tackle I've ever seen, even the Eduardo tackle wasn't that malicious. Witsel make a clear and unquestionable attempt the break his leg...that is beyond unacceptable. 10 games and a 2500 fine is a fucking joke.
