Louis
Murder investigation launched after Wirral man dies following fight Jan 10 2009 MERSEYSIDE Police has launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who had been involved in a fight with a teenager in Wirral. Officers were called to the scene at 12.45pm in the Upton Road/ Speedwell Road area of Claughton, Wirral after reports of a fight in the area. Two local people were taken to hospital, a 14 year old youth whose condition is described as critical but stable and a 46 year old man who later died. It is thought that both victims received stab wounds following the attack, but a post mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of death of the 46 year old man. Detectives are following a number of lines of enquiry, and a spokesman said initial enquiries suggest that this "was a targeted, domestic related incident". The area remains cordoned off and will be subject to a thorough search. Officers are keen to trace a man in connection with this incident. He is described as a white man, thought to be in his 40s, of stocky build, around 5ft 8"tall, balding and wearing a black and dark grey padded jacket. Merseyside Police would urge members of the public to contact them immediately if they see a man fitting this description. Area Commander for Wirral, Chief Superintendent Jon Ward said: "I would directly appeal to members of the local community to come forward with any information that could assist Merseyside Police. For their reassurance there will be a significantly increased police presence in the area, and I would encourage local people to talk to those officers about any concerns or information they may have." House to house enquiries are being carried out, and the crime scene is now cordoned off. Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555
