Louis
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12010_3793317,00.html Former Sunderland manager Peter Reid is in the running to take charge of the Thailand national team. Reid, who has not held a managerial role since leaving Coventry in January 2005, has already opened talks with the Football Association of Thailand. Worawi Makudi, the president of the country's FA, has confirmed that Reid and ex-Canada coach Holger Osieck are the two leading candidates. "We are negotiating the details with Peter Reid of England and German Holger Osieck," Worawi told the Bangkok Post. "A deal will be finalised in a few weeks and I will formally announce who will be the new national coach." Reid also has previous experience with Manchester City and Leeds but he has never worked at international level, unlike his rival for the job. As well as managing Canada, Osieck was Franz Beckenbauer's assistant during Germany's World Cup win in 1990. More recently, he guided Urawa Reds to victory in the Asian Champions League last year before being sacked by the Japanese club after a poor start to the next campaign. Thailand have already been eliminated from qualifying for the 2010 World Cup after finishing bottom of a group which also contained Japan, Bahrain and Oman. A 2-1 defeat to Oman in June was followed by the departure of coach Charnwit Polcheewin
