I’m not a monarchist but I often find the arguments against the monarchy very dated and somewhat envy driven.  Like that “taxpayers money” line…. The monarchy cost a fraction of what they earn us.  I’d sooner have the monarchy own alot of our land than it going to Chinese or Russian investors like it has over the past.
the monarchy is doing a better job at moving forward than many peoples attitudes towards them. As it stands I think the monarchy will be in less stable ground because the Queen was such a force.

Shit loads.  Ignorant brits spout the usual crap like “never done a days work in their lives”…. Some of them like Edward maybe but the Queen?  Absolute machine.

once a week she met with the prime minister, every single one of them remarked as to how smart she was on world affairs (she spent mornings review news).   She had daily documents to review, absolute tons of admin.  Circa 430 appointments a year right up till a few years ago.

when entertaining officials from other countries she would try and use their language. She made it her business to know details about them so she could talk appropriately.

she would get official parliamentary once a week at the same time, she would administer them that night.

throw in all the hours of travelling to and from venues and it’s a job I wouldn’t like to do.  To do that for 70 years and live like a prisoner? No thanks.

There's a very large portion of the world who is certainly not mourning, and rightfully so.

I’m not saying you are in a minority, I’m saying I haven’t read or heard anyone bring that comment up since the Queen passed before you did earlier. He didn’t hold himself up to be the King he was born to be the King, he probably doesn’t want to be King truth be known, yet being a father he’s not abdicating he’s allowing his son to spend as much time as possible with his young family for as long as possible, there will be plenty of time all being well for William to be King but right now he needs to give his kids as much attention as he can.

It’s amazing the warmth and love people from all round the world had for the queen, that can’t be denied whether you are royalist or not, her loss will be felt greater than Mandela’s even Putin has praised her, who would have thought that possible with what’s going on between Russia and the rest of the free world and particularly Britain. She was excellent in her service to this country she helped us prosper because she was so respected by the heads of state from probably every other country globally, were most of our PM’s and MP’s have been a hindrance to our country for more decades than I care to remember. I have been a royalist all my life and will remain so if Charles can carry on the work she did for this country with the diligence and respect she showed her whole life.

I know we’ve been talking about it in the longest thread but, regardless of how you feel about the Queen or the monarchy, I think this is a major point in history and deserves it’s own thread.

I’ll move posts from the longest thread into here (they will likely be above this post).

Very sad news about the Queen, but from Everton's perspective  a break will give us time to get the new players up to speed and time for injured players to recover.

I've no complaints at the extra prep time and fitness time for our players.
If it's 2 weeks rather than just one then it will really tighten the schedule at some point.
With DCL back in full training hopefully he'll be available for the next game.

Also not a royalist but being from a country in the commonwealth I have a respect for the royal family.
I hope people comments on this matter are respectful though as I imagine this could be a very emotional time for some people on this forum.

VAR and technology could actually make the game 100% fair, I’m pretty certain every stadium could have calibrated cameras with an automatic decision made via a computer.    To me it’s seems they don’t want this, why? Cos they want to influence outcomes.

Still love the bloke, we really miss his energy, he’s not the most refined player, but he’s a pain to play against.

He’s a lot faster than I thought he was. Always going to be a hard game against the liverpool backline but I thought he did well apart from the finish.
    Promising signs.

Considering it was his debut, having not played much, in the derby against a good team, he played really well and was a great focal point for the attack.

We went toe to toe with them, without a doubt. How many times have we done that in recent memory?

Absolutely, even watching on TV you can feel the connection is back with the fans. We never expect to win every game but at a minimum we demand a shift and we’re getting that from everyone.
Whats most pleasing is we tried to play football against liverpool and matched them for most parts. Not the niggling, dark arts stuff we’ve seen in recent weeks.
This for me was the first real snippet of Frank Lampards Everton and I loved it.

This was such an exciting game to watch, and a draw was, in all honesty, a fair result. If either team deserved to win, we did - but Liverpool hit the post more times. As others have said, every player contributed, even the subs. Pickford was astonishingly good, and our back line is becoming solid. I couldn't help but notice how Tarkowski barked orders to Mykolenko, and Coady was constantly encouraging Patterson. That's what experienced leaders should be doing. While Davies played well and came within an inch of scoring, Gana showed his quality. Our midfield this season is going to be awesome. Gray impressed me no end today, complemented on the other side by Gordon. Despite missing a sitter, Maupay had an excellent first game. McNeil is going to be a real impact sub. I'm really looking forward to seeing this team improve as the season progresses. By the second half of the season, we are going to be a real force to be reckoned with.
