He was quality last night. What impressed me the most is that he leant and adapted as the game went on. He got caught out a couple of times, then adapted and was immense. Quality performance, and I hope, as other have said, that we have our new starting right back.

He’s played very little football at this level for such a long time, so would expect him to be a little bit rusty and off the pace as we did with DCL, yet imo he has performed like DCL extremely well in a short space of time. Hopefully we can now forget about Holgate and Godfrey becoming first choice replacements for Coleman.

What I like about him is that he has a rawness to him. He isn't afraid and will put his foot in.
Hopefully he will get a good run in the team now and we can watch him grow.
I also hope the fans can be patient with him and let him make a few mistakes. Get behind him and he can become a mainstay for years.

Downvoted purely because I think that’s incredibly disrespectful to Seamus. Coleman at his peak was probably the best RB in the Premiership and you don’t get to that level without great ability

Bar a couple on here I have not heard or read any pundit blaming Patterson for the Gundogan goal, that first touch off his hip to take on too his weaker side and then to execute the the over head kick in the same movement, would have done any player dead or alive that’s played this game at the highest level. The lad was as good if not better than most of team, some very blinkered people on TT.

Patterson could emulate and eclipse  Coleman, I absolutely believe that he has bags of potential.  Coleman had some awful games for us as a young lad.

mykolenko won’t get anywhere near baines.  Baines is one of the top 5 left backs in the world from the past 20 years.

I agree but if you listen to people, they're comparing prime, league-best FBs with kids who are supposed to replace them. It's unfair and unproductive

I thought he put in a shift yesterday, I like his attitude and work ethic so hope that he continues to develop here. I'd like to think he can be an influential and important player for us.

I go away today back to Spain for 4 weeks taking my Fire Stick so I can watch both games. Plenty of Tapas beer and red wine, it’s going to be great few weeks watching Everton destroy Wolves and Bournemouth and seeing Leeds and Leicester relegated.

Is Maupay told when he goes on keep out the area and run around the middle chasing the ball, or playing tippy tappy 35-40 yards from their goal when we have good possession. For me he lacks any idea of how to play as the man up front, sadly it’s embarrassing to watch he is completely non effective and hopefully yesterday was the last time we will have to witness it.

Maupay is not a central striker in any way, shape or form. He's a supporting striker who works off and with a main striker.
I don't think Simms would have had any joy if he'd have come on yesterday either, I think the City defence would have dealt with him, but at least it would have made more sense to go with him.

Supposedly will be a Norwich player next season.
It's happening years and years after when it should have but at least it may be happening.
    I might have a party.

Think he'll be like Barry and McCarthy in that you won't really notice him but he'll be a key cog, keeping us ticking over.

Did anyone else notice how Gray ran onto the field to congratulate him after his goal at the end? Great to see such camaraderie.

after a nervous start, he is now beginning to look a good bit of business - we worried he wouldn't get goals, but so far this season his 7 goals have equaled the total he got at Burnley over 4 seasons. So no problem on this front.
He does gets his head up and deliver quality balls in to dangerous areas, has a few assists - but we know this would be far higher if we had more attacking talent on the pitch. He is creating chances.
Puts in the defensive shift needed by the top modern wingers - He has not had the greatest support by our left back this season either. Is doing the less glamorous part of the game.
Not wanting to put a curse on him, but he has been available for selection and not on a treatment table.
Considering we obtained £45M for an 18months younger Gordon - then in todays market a up to £20M for a 23 year old McNeil has to go down as a successful transfer.

Patterson and Garner both 22. Hope this is the beginning of the next generation of Everton stars to be the mainstay of the team. Not forgetting Branthwaite, Cannon and possibly Simms.

I was a big fan before but I was worried about his last season with Burnley. I am glad he has shown what he is capable of and long may it continue.

I know which of the two I’d rather have in my team.
Gordon was talking about how we were too good to go down last season, while picking up the odd goal. McNeil is actually scoring goals to keep us in the league.
    Hype or substance?

He's looking like he did for Ancelotti and early Benitez. He's a much better player than he's shown.
Why would you not give a 2 year extension for a player finding form, who works hard and knows the league? Certainly a cheaper and safer option than bringing someone new in.

Well, McNeil, Doucoure and one other (I think Pickford) got into Shearer's team of the week.
