I find it a bit ludicrous that people are jumping on points per game stats without putting any context whatsoever to them
Moyes took over an ageing side that were perennial relegation battlers and turned them into regular European contenders and he did it without money so it took him time to build his side and it’s those first few seasons that dented his points per game stats but it’s undeniable that he improved us and took us forward
Martinez reaped the benefits of that and was given a ton of cash to add to an already very good squad and ultimately took us backwards, he was the start of the rot
Carlo admittedly also took over a poor side but he had plenty of good young quality in the squad and he was also afforded plenty of cash to turn it around but couldn’t rise above mid table. I don’t think his ‘just go out and play’ approach was getting the best out of the players . Which brings me back to the point of my original post Moyes was the polar opposite he was meticulous in his preparation and left no stone unturned and spent his time on the training ground actually coaching the players and getting his idea across and I think Benitez is cut from the same cloth which for me is a welcome change
Do the people who are clinging to these stats honestly think if Martinez or Carlo had been at the club 10 years that their stats would still compare favourably with Moyes?
I decided to give the points per game more out of interest. Not jumping to anything nor did I gave any real opinion on it, hence the lack of context. But thanks for your opinion.

You can dispute all you like, Bill, but both Ancelotti and Martinez had better win records than David Moyes. We may not like them sometimes, but facts are facts.
Ancelotti - 1.59
Martinez - 1.56
Moyes - 1.53
Koeman - 1.43
Silva - 1.4
Interstingly enough here is how the Points per game tallys up. Carlo on top. Silva all the way at the bottom (obviously his last 2 seasons dented that massively). Moyes did a fantastic job with the resources he had. Koeman absolutely shafted us - his return for the money spent was awful and never took any responsibility.

Going to be a very tough game, West Ham look like a cracking team with a lot of good players in there. Moyes has done a really good job with them.
Hopefully we have Dom and Richy back. Id like to see at least one of them so we can rid Rondon of the starting line up, but have confidence in Gray and Townsend if the other isn't fit to start.
I think it'll be a close game, and hopefully we edge it with the home advantage.

He looked a little nervous in the opening part of the game. Certainly grew into it and didn't seem too out of place. I think he just needs to work on his confidence & begin to express himself a bit more.

If you think your not going to score then you probably won't. I don't think Tom thought he would score, so he passed instead. In my mind that's good decision making. It didn't come off but he thought about his options as opposed to putting into row z.
If you have a clear sight of goal & take a shot there are two eventualities, you score or you don't.
If you then pass the ball there are several more. The receiving player could score, but he could miss, he could be offside or the pass may not reach the target. You're effectively lowing your chances of scoring.
He should have had a shot, it's inexcusable and he will be disappointed in himself more than anyone else is.

Tackling, pressing, passing, and stamina, plus he loves the club.
I don't think he is though.
I think he's good at trying. I don't think any of his individual qualities other than his work rate suffice at this level. Loving the club isn't a free pass to accept lack of quality. I like Davies as a person, but he's not good enough if we want to progress as a club.

Definitely a confidence issue. Doesn't score enough and that's in his head. He's not very good at finishing, or creating chances. Come to think of it I'm not really sure what he is good at.

Can anybody remember last time we won goal of the month?
Did Jags win it Vs the shite? If he didn't it's criminal I don't need to see the other nominations.

Successful pressures* in the league this season:
Allan - 58
Phillips - 49
Doucoure - 47
These two are absolutely bossing in midfield. Critical to our team at the minute and hopefully can stay fit the throughout the season.
*Possession gained within 5 seconds of pressure.
Edit: just seen this post in the Allan thread, apologies.

It'll be fair to judge him after he's actually had a decent run of games. He looks nowhere near fit enough and very rusty.
It is difficult to see what his strengths actually are at the minute.

Has the most shot ending (10) and goal ending (3) carries in the league so far this season and averages the third highest average carry distance (14m)
A player we've needed for a long, long time.

I really don't want to pick one as I thought Gray and Doucoure were both brilliant today.
I'm going to pick the latter I think, because he smiles all the time and that's edged it for me.
-
We have to take our chances. It's as simple as that. We've had ample and not really threatened De Gea.
-
What a liability this man is to our squad. Yes he's been unlucky but we can't afford to have players like him at the club anymore with the amount of dross that we have. No excuse, shouldn't have been behind the wheel morning after or not.
-
Went for Allan. Doucoure could have easily got it but I just felt Allan did all the nitty gritty and didn't step a foot wrong today. Kept play ticking over. Doucoure was magnificent, however had a couple of moments which worried me, like losing the ball in important positions. It's nice to see Allan so committed to the club after Ancelotti left you can tell it means a lot to him to perform well week in week out.
Finally starting to feel we have a solid partnership with these two. We haven't had that in awhile in central midfield.
Also credit to Pickford, Mina, Townsend and Gray I thought they were all very good.

Sorry but Davies has no pace he can’t possibly play right back.
Can't be any slower than Luca Digne... Pace isn't everything.
To be honest though I agree with you. I've seen enough of Davies and haven't really thought he'd be anymore use to the club for several seasons now.
To go a step further the club needs a huge overhaul. Keane, Holgate, Davies, Gomes, Sigurdsson, Kenny have all been here far too long and haven't proven they're good enough to take us where we want to be. Recruitment is a real mess and I don't see it getting better under Moshiri.

Going to be a struggle getting a goal now without Dom and Richy. Let's see how we react.
-
Digne has to foul him there.
-
Gray has been fantastic. Moves with the ball like a top level player. If he can keep up with his end product (and it's a big if) he will be signing of the season throughout the whole league.

This sub is some bullshit. If he's concussed why was he allowed to stay in for the last ten minutes?
Concussion I think can be onset. The extra sub is there to protect the players and I have no issue with that.
