If we were going to give them a real game we could have done with Pienaar and Gibson. When they are in possession, they constantly sit on our defensive line. We don't do this.

I agree. We don't have the squad strength to have the luxury of blowing that much on one player. The same amount with careful scouting could bring in 4 or 5 young players for when our older lads move on.
