  1. Shame. You have to wonder if Vellios will leave on a free, and if one day, he will be thinking "Did I really have my best go at making it? Did I put in 100% effort and do my best to be a Premier League footballer?" ... All signs point to him leaving on a free and hooking up with a lower-half Championship side, or playing in a "lesser" league somewhere in Europe. Maybe he goes back to one of the bigger clubs in Greece.
  2. I reckon we could bring McGeady in and still try to bring back Gerard if he does well the second half of next season, assuming Barca don't have him in their first team plans next season. I'd take McGeady IF the price was VERY cheap (think 2.5m or less). We could do with one more wide player, but we have much more pressing concerns at striker and central midfield, and probably centerback come next summer.
  3. I was hoping that we'd see him over Jelavic, and that he might get a game or two if big Rom needed a rest. I'm very disappointed to say the least.
  4. Mirallas behind Lukaku? Deulofeu on the right, Pienaar on the left? I haven't been on the train that we should have starting Gerard every week for months now, but he looked quite decent against Spurs, worth giving him a start against Palace? Or Gerry on the left and Pienaar in the middle. I do worry about Barkley's defensive skills though.
  5. Yes, please. Any talented teenager we can snatch up a decent price is a good thing. Even if 3 out of 4 of these 15-18 year old signings don't break though, the one who does makes up for it.
  6. Funny enough, Yakubu had a killer season for Blackburn after leaving us. However, he moved to China after that and players over there don't generate headlines, so I'm not sure what's become of him.
  7. This. If he were available for 2-4m, he might be worth a punt. Still though, his injury record is about as bad as they come... We've already got Gibson, a very talented midfielder who has been unfit far too often for us, as well as Alcaraz, so I'm not sure I would take another injury prone player at the moment. Who knows, maybe Rodwell's career will continue to stall and City and we can get him on loan or really cheap at some point in the future (They're probably not ready to let him go cheap/on loan just yet, though)...
  8. Haha! I know that, Mike! I'm no idiot... Well, that's debatable, but in all seriousness, money never disappears, but fans like to claim so when money from a player sale doesn't go towards acquiring new players.
  9. Possible, but I'm not so sure. Remember we had money to spend on McCarthy regardless of the Fellaini deal, then Fellaini was sold for 27.5m, so I imagine we still have SOME of that money available, plus if anyone departs in January (Baines, Jelavic, Heitinga on a nominal fee)... I could very well be wrong, and the money could disappear, but I imagine we already have SOME funds available in January. Hell, I think Martinez has acknowledged that he will have SOME money available in January. I'd like to see some of the Fellaini fee go to service the debt, though.
  10. For the love of God. Is this true? I refuse to wrap my head around this... Kenwright can't be THAT much of a pathetic businessman.
  11. So you want someone like Barkley... I wonder what United's asking price for Januzaj would be. Brett, why don't you find out and then provide us with a list of targets who are as promising as Barkley that we can afford.
  12. He only graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School... You're right, he's probably stupid
  13. This. See Spurs under Harry Redknapp. They'd always look like sure Champions League material the first 1/2-2/3 of the season, then they'd collapse. Why? Redknapp only used 14-15 players regularly and they'd all be tired come March. Dempsey would be a far better/threatening option off of the bench than Naismith, Osman, and I wouldn't mind rotating the squad and giving him a start, unlike Naismith... Some of you really do have a small club mentality, or you just don't understand what type of squad is needed to compete for fourth. See Pete0's post. But a good offer came in for him. The Sounds made a good offer to bring a top American back to MLS, and they offered Dempsey some of the highest wages in that league.
  14. No. It's a bad habit, but I've always thought Jags seems fairly intelligent... I think it's more of a tic/habit than a sign of low intelligence... Listen to what he says beyond that first bit, he can formulate and articulate decent thoughts fairly quickly, and I've seen many interviews where he seems to be a good, thoughtful representative of our club. *Edit* Tim Cahill pauses and says "ehm" a lot, but he is very intelligent and articulate. Hell, even Barack Obama (I'm American everyone) has a few verbal tics, he pauses and says "Um" a lot, and he also begins phrases with "Let me be clear" quite often, and no one is doubting his intelligence.
  15. He only score 12 for Spurs last year, and 23 for Fulham before that.
  16. You'd rather have Osman & Naismith than Clint Dempsey? I'll let you think about that for a minute. Money to be tight? Yes, exactly, another reason why a loan could be a good bit of business....
  17. We have no depth. Well, a little bit of depth, but a lack of quality from our backups. This would give us more options and give some of the current crop a chance to rest every now and then. One does have to worry about a late-season collapse with a small squad.
  18. I was wondering if he'd be available for loan (similar to Donovan, Robbie Keane, Beckham) come January. Especially since he will be playing in the WC next summer, he needs to be facing top competition. I'd love to have him on loan.
  19. No. I don't want to spend 12-15m on another midfielder. We need to find someone as cover/cheaper and save our larger kitty for a capable striker in January or next summer.
  20. I don't know if that's entirely correct. I mean, United have bought youngsters from abroad, they also bought Nick Powell from Crewe a few years been when they were a League 2 side. Yes, though, he will definitely be expected to also bring in some big names, but it doesn't mean he won't search the lower English leagues for players. But yes, United "fans" expect top names as well, and they are spoilt bastards most certainly.
  21. Real shame. it just appeared he was coming back from this nagging thigh problem, now we've probably lost him for the rest of the season... Shame. I feel for him, he's a quality player, but he's proved very injury prone.
  22. Investment without entirely changing the identity of our club. Changing our name and the colors, etc is just too much.
  23. It stinks that this will delay his development by at least a year. So odd that he seems so highly rated, yet has gotten so little first team action at any level.

    Man City

Decisions hurt us. A soft penalty, a semi-soft goal, we just weren't good enough. Let's move on to the match, we have a good squad and one performance shouldn't ruin our season.
