What should and what does happen aren't always in sync - not sure if Garbutt wasn't aware of the plans not to register him, if he was not allowed to leave on loan or permanently, or if he refused to because perhaps he is getting paid a higher wage than a League 1/lower Championship side would pay him (his level?)
-
Obviously, but if a player is over 21 and not registered with the squad, it's clear for his sake he needs to be loaned out until we can get a fee or contract expiry, released, or allowed to leave for a fee or for free.
-
A Besiktas fan joins and now a Galatasaray fan? Watch out USA, pretty soon there's gonna be a huge Turkish contingent on this board! haha.
-
Obvious that he's not good enough - needs to be moved on in the summer because next year he will count against a squad place.

How long until Spurs can hijack the deal? -
No strong leads as to what will happen to him in January.

Wonder what the consequences of this would be - hopefully it would deflate some of the fees being paid out. Per my earlier statement - this is the problem. Football is now and international business which means you are subject to the ease or non-ease of doing business in countries with lesser accounting standards and more unstable finance than say France, England, Germany. It's so fickle because you don't know who owns half of football clubs now adays, the source of their wealth, their debt levels and financial stability (Counterparty creditworthiness... I'm guessing somebody who sold a player to Portsmouth in 2009 with installment payments didn't see much of the agreed fee). ... And that's before you get to the corruption of some of the characters who are football investors, especially in places like China and Russia. Not to mention English clubs who now have taken on rather sketchy owners - Leyton Orient with the Italian gentleman, Evangelos Marinakis at Forest (Has been accused of match-fixing, his wealth is tied to shipping, a notoriously non-transparent industry where not paying taxes is the standard way of doing business by registering one's ships in the Marshall Islands, Bahams, Panama, etc - not saying maximizing one's corporate or personal income taxes makes sense either), Carsen Yeung at Birmingham. Abramovich's wealth comes from his close ties to Putin as he was one of the oligarchs who made out like bandits during post-Soviet privatization (friends of Russian politicians bought valuable state owned companies for pennies on the dollar) The business of football is a mess and not very transparent, which gives me great sympathy to FIFA and what Financial Fair Play is trying to do, but I also think it has so many provisions that protect the megaclubs and make it impossible for anyone to catch up. ...and this is exclusive of good-willed owners who just ran clubs into the ground through incompetence (Ellis Short at Sunderland, Lerner at Villa, Venkys at Blackburn) -

If it's not to violate Financial Fair Play, I can see where Besiktas is coming from. -

Taking note of that.

And the record shirt, sleeve, and training ground sponsorships - hopefully the new ground will come with a fat naming sponsorship, as well. As for a manager, I'm pretty sure we'll be fine if we match what we paid Allardyce/Koeman and provide money to spend in the market.... -

18th now on 20 points (Stoke, yikes!) - A lot of the relegation fodder bar WBA and Swansea seem to really be starting to pick up some points - this could reopen an intense relegation battle - I could see Swansea and West Brom being adrift at the bottom, but 18th could come down between 3-5 teams very late on. Brighton, Huddersfield, and even Watford now looking like they could be involved if they don't pick up form. We are now only 7 points above bottom, and our next four fixtures are Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester (not easy, imo) and West Brom - crucial to get three against West Brom or we could very well be sitting only 3-5 points above the bottom three at the start of February. I don't think this becomes a relegation fight again, but that would definitely make a lot of us uneasy. -

Yes, and the data is against different opponents (Koeman faced all the top six bar Liverpool), and every season I've watched us, we've had varying form throughout the season. -
This somehow went untalked about on this forum I believe- Cahill left Melbourne City in early December - has yet to sign with a new club. Looks desperate to go to the World Cup.

Again, I am not going to give an up or down vote on him for awhile, but many more performances like that aren't going to do his chances of staying on much good.Pitiful. Get the striker in and then no excuses. -

1) Most passionate supporter Paddock 2) Most knowledgable member MikeO because he and I share a similar world view, so I'll flatter him that we're right on Trump, Brexit, Lib Dems, etc... 3) Most interesting member Johnh for 70+ years of stories. 4) Most predictable member Me, since I always know what I'm going to say... Oh, that doesn't count? Well then, Haf, pete0, MJB, and Cornish Steve all have their topics that elicit predictable responses. Or... John Burns. How has no one mentioned him? Oh wait, upon my third edit writing this, it would appear he is the railway buff. Christ that man is fanatical. 5) Most valued member MikeO 6) Most arrogant member Depends on the subject - all of us think we're experts and absolutely right on something related to Everton... 7) Most clueless member Rubes - Not in a bad way, but in a still has moments displaying a lack of understanding of the internet. 8) Most enthusiastic member MC11, though MJB picking up scouse is a serious token to his blue bloodedness 9) Member you'd most like to meet at a game Romey 10) Member you'd most like to meet down the pub Dunc- I think he and I agree on most things Everton, so we'd have a good moan on that subject. Mike for a good moan on politics/society. 11) Member you'd most like to meet in a boxing ring MJB seems more of a lover than a fighter, so him 12) Member at whom you'd most like to throw a custard pie Since Cornish Steve asked the question, he gets the custard pie though throwing one at John Burns might shut him up for a minute (is he this railway buff you all are talking about?). Ah, John Burns is that fucking railway guy. 13) Members who despite being on this forum alongside me for almost 8 years, I still have yet to truly attribute consistent opinions or traits to? Bill, Lownesda, Stev0, Shukes, Newty, c1982, London Blue. Seeing as no one has named me in any of their superlatives, I must be in that boat for all of you -

Watford were leading for a long while. Woulda shot them up the table again and I could've started making jokes that Marco SIlva would again clearly be the "Next big thing" manager after a month of poor results and being clearly overrated. How the hell have Swansea beaten anybody? They are dog shite. I don't rate the manager they've brought in either. Absolutely criminal if they didn't call Gary Rowett or some of the better managers in that division, though any manager with a top half Championship side probably wouldn't touch Swansea with a ten foot pole. They probably should've brought Garry Monk back,
