  1. LOL i know that you must NEVER underestimate a portuguese team..but everton is never going to be outclassed like that by benfica. and if they are, it is because of the gods trying to make me look like a fool on toffeetalk. I hope the same gods are offering a good stream online, don't want to miss this one! edit: my prono.. I'm going for a 1-1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. If we can manage to win this match, which I doubt as a draw will be much more likely, I think it'll be safe to say we've got the group stage sorted. An away win against our biggest threat in the group would be massive.
  3. Are you sure about that. I can't remember a single time where he's played at anything but CB and RB for Australia.
  4. But if you're going to try Thai beers, avoid Singha at all costs!! It tastes as though it's been made with the dirtiest, most stale water on Earth.
  5. Chang is a pretty good beer. It's like most SE Asian style lagers. Nothing spectacular, but miles ahead of all the commercial trash we've got here in Australia (VB, Carlton, Fosters, Tooheys, etc).
  6. I'll be very pleased if they do extend the deal, purely for aesthetic reasons though. I reckon the Chang logo on the front of the shirt is one of the best looking sponsor logos on a football shirt anywhere in the world. It's certainly not intrusive and almost adds a touch of class. The only other competitior in to Chang and Everton is (dare I say it) Carlsberg and Lverpool. Both shirts look really good.
  7. I'm pretty sure they've been 4.5 stars the last three or four editions of the game. And on the player pics - they got it pretty bloody good with Saha, Cahill and Heitinga. Although they needed to get Cahill right as he's on the cover of the Aussie version. The rest of them just look generic. But if you guys think the Everton players look bad, you should see some of the A-League (Australian league). Almost all of them are absolutely terrible representations. In some instances blokes with what you would consider olive-coloured skin have come out looking like they're Sudanese. But I really didn't expect it to be any different for the A-League.
  8. First of all, this topic shouldn't have even been started. Even the threadmaker admits this. It's stupid to consider putting Neill at LB as his best position is, by far and a way, at CB, followed by RB. And it's simply ludicrous to even consider replacing Baines at LB with Neill - but all that has been said before ITT. But really, we're not THAT bad off for people who can fill the LB position: - Baines - Billy (people seem to be forgetting he has played pretty well there for Russia before) - Neville - Distin But I worry Distin hasn't the pace nor stamina to play at LB - which would mean Pienaar/Billy wouldn't get any support or overlapping runs.
  9. I wouldn't necessarily agree that he looks liek a different player, because I saw his quality last season, but he just wasn't fit enough to show it frequently. But now he certainly has different fitness and he's in brilliant form!
  10. Well seeing as though Dunc and Tommy Gravesen have both now retired, I think Everton FC should look at employing them as security for the players' homes. If I were a crook I certainly would not want to come across these two... I could have posted the cliche strangling pic, but I reckon Ferguson looks like a right old nutjob in this one!
  11. If you're an Aussie, I'm deeply embarrased to be associated with you. There is NO WAY at all that Neill is better than Jags. No way. I don't even know why I'm arguing it!
  12. It's no rumour, Pim absolutely hates it when his top Socceroos aren't playing regularly.
  13. I'm not sure how I feel about this as it seems a knee-jerk reaction to the combination of Phil Neville's injury, Hibbert's Europa suspension and Heitinga's Europa ineligibility. In any case, Neill wouldn't be able to play in the Europa competition until Feb. I feel we've got the right fullback position more than covered: Heitinga, Hibbert, Gosling and Neville (when he gets back from injury, which should be a few months). To bring Neill in there would be absolute overkill. The same could also be said if Moyes wants him for the center. We've got Yobo, Distin and Jagielka (when he gets back from injury) and I feel the fourth choice CB needs to be a slightly lower quality than Neill, who would have expectations to be playing week in week out (much like our other CBs). And for the Socceroos we need him playing week-in-week out. It's almost a case of Everton having too much quality in depth in certain positions. ATTN: David Moyes WE NEED A RIGHT WINGER!!!! Osman is crap and Arteta is well and truly wasted out on the right!
  14. I think we will be much more likely to use Arteta in a deep-lying playmaker role (similar to Pirlo), as he performed it brilliantly in the weeks before he was injured. I think we'll see something like this when at full strength: ----Neville----Arteta Pienaar---Cahill---Billy ----------Yakubu Rodwell and Neville are interchangable, and I think Fellaini will also be used there as he was brought in as a holding mid and he showed glimpses of his ability in that role against Wigan. Alternatively Fellaini can be swapped with Cahill in the attacking mid role.
  15. "But the door is open for Joleon. We don't want him to go, I have said that all along, unless we get an offer that I think is right." That quote is the clincher. Moyes has been saying all along that he won't sell anyone no matter what, but now he's changed that and is now saying he won't sell anyone unless the right offer comes in. That, plus the fact that he's prepared to play Phil Neville or Rodwell at CB against Sigma tonight, says to me that Lescott has played his last game for Everton. This is a damn shame. I thought Moyes was going to buck the football world trend and actually honour his word. But it seems he miscalculated Lescott's personality/mental resolve and the risk didn't pay off.
  16. I think it's entirely possible to play both of them in the same side, but Cahill needs to be the more attacking of the two. He's not the best distributor of the ball but he's sooooo damn good at playing off a lone striker (as we've always seen and particularly against Ireland the other night). Felli has impressed me with the way he has improved his passing and especially his motor since he joined us. He came from Standard as a defensive mid but has now shown that he can be a bit more attacking minded. For that reason I'd like to see him partner Neville in the middle with Cahill in a more advanced role behind the striker. Basically just reverse the roles they had on Saturday.
  17. There are two thing I want to know: Will Moyes play Lescott against Arsenal, and how will the fans treat him? I'm guessing he will play him be cause we've got sweet FA center-backs and I'm really hoping the fans don't boo him. If it were me, I'd be cheering Lescott just as they did against Malaga. I'm certainly being a bit of an idealist, but I'm hoping the Everton fans won't be cnuts and instead cheer his every touch in an attempt to persuade him to forget about money and stay at a club full of passion and integrity. So, anyone going to the match on Saturday, please don't boo him.
  18. No idea what Topman is sorry. But forgetting about all that, surely everyone agrees this just looks like a joke and is embarassing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4o2bLb9f_E
  19. While I'm from across the pond (in Aus), I'm well aware of the history of Maori lawsuits. But I wasn't referring to the legalities of it all, just about the lack of respect to the Maori culture. First of all it's just down right tacky, which I'd argue cheapens something that Maori culture considers very important.
  20. I'm definitely on the Maori's side with this one. Very, very disrespectful. I'd also be tempted to sue Everton just for being so tacky. The whole thing just looks embarassing.
  21. Saha's birthday is on August 8 and he apparently wanted No. 8 when he first came to the club. Now that Castillo has left, Saha has his wish. Although, I'd like to think we'll be getting someone to fill the No. 9 in this transfer window (won't happen though as I think Moyes is happy with the striker situation).
  22. CARN THE BOMBERS!!! I hated, and was perplexed by, the supposed away kit design when it first started showing up on here. But now it's really, really grown on me. I'm glad they've gone for a slightly futuristic design and I reckon it'll look damn well sexy on the pitch. I'm considering getting the away top over the home, as it'll be better to wear out.
  23. Pfft, nah. That's just silly speculation from the journo. They've just spun the quotes in such a way to create speculation - and they've done a pretty shit job of it. You'll find the same quotes in this story, but Tim Hilferty has used them for the angle they were originally intended when Craig Foster interviewed Wenger http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,865 ... 39,00.html It's a case of a manager merely admiring a player, not admiring him with an intent to sign.
  24. Shame on the security guards for asking him to leave? Wah?! Cahill was allegedly too pissed to legally stay on the premises, they had to kick him out.
