  1. I don’t care that he used to be the Liverpool manager. I don’t care that he made comments trying to belittle us in the past. My worries stem from what I expect his playing/ management style to be - yes under Ancelotti, it wasn’t always pretty but I felt we were so hampered by injuries and I always felt he’d address it this summer. I also worry about how Benitez/Brands works. Now Benitez (potentially) has a lot to prove and we, as fans, won’t give him too many chances whereas Carlo would have earned a lot more patience (rightly or wrongly). If Benitez comes and plays decent football and actually looks like he’s going to help us build long term e.g. younger players who we can develop and add value to/ grow with them, then it’ll be hard to argue with the appointment.
  2. Really? His CV before the Germany job isnt particularly inspiring.
  3. Let’s hope he’s learnt something in his 17 years in the national team set-up. Probably one of the most highly regarded managers in world football - he’d be a huge coup. It’s not happening but if Moshiri wanted a ‘marquee’ type managerial appointment like Ancelotti, there’s not many higher profile than Low.
  4. I’m surprised Joachim Low hasn’t been linked - leaving after the Euro’s - he’d have to cut out the scratch and sniff nonsense but he’d be an appointment that would restore the faith in the decision makers.
  5. Sounds ideal (once beefed up!) Santos noted that Nunes can drive you 30 yards up the field to his speed and dribbling, though he isn’t quite as physical as some Premier League midfielders. “It’s unbelievable when he has the ball at his feet. Nobody can catch him; it’s impossible because he’s too fast,” said Santos. “Matheus is a box-to-box player. He’s not so strong like midfielders in the Premier League but he’s very fast. He’s very good with the ball because he is a Brazilian bou. They know how to play with the ball.” “If you are in the defensive phase and he gets the ball, he can run with it and fire the team 30 yards up the pitch because he is so good in possession,” he added.
  6. I’d take you over Southgate (as long as you wear a waistcoat).
  7. Early contender for the most ridiculous ‘rumour’ this summer…
  8. Us being linked with Doherty and Coady if Nuno comes, scares me. I wouldn’t mind Nuno but signing average players with little or no resale value is what has got us into this mess - it’s the last thing we need.
  9. I’d say David Gill leaving was one of the biggest factors for Moyes’ United ‘failure’ - he played such a key role in the running of the club and to be replaced by that clown Woodward didn’t help at all.
  10. I’m not Pete so presume you mean me (as you’ve quoted my post)… the progress in Europe was his 2nd season and I’d have happily finished 11th (or 14th) and win a cup - still would now.
  11. By that logic (and I agree in part), maybe if Brands is selecting the players, Martinez could do a job coaching them and playing to a system. It was awful when he left and some of the performances were horrific but each season saw us very nearly achieve something: Season 1 - excellent but just missed out on top 4 - how? I don’t know! Season 2 - that European run should have gone all the way - ultimately Martinez’s poor decisions didn’t help but weren’t we down to the bare bones? Season 3 - FA Cup and League Cup semis… we should have beaten Man U for a final against Palace. I was sick of him by the end of his time but he wasn’t far off doing something no other Everton manager has done since Royle and that first season is the best performing Everton/ easiest on the eye I’ve seen since 95/96 Kanchelskis’ first season under Royle. I would be willing to forgive with Martinez and would definitely give him a chance with Brands’ support.
  12. Imagine though! I’d be happy paying for that each week!
  13. Hang on… Imagine this nutter in the dug-out - I for one would embrace it!
