Splashing the cash doesn't always mean teams are spending more money than us. Teams like Leicester and Bournemouth now - Stoke, Sunderland etc in the past will pay more in transfer fees than us but we will spend more on a weekly basis to keep better players. Stoke are a good example of the 'cycle' - they'd spent very big in transfer fees in their first few seasons but not the last couple because they've kept their better players and are paying better wages. They have reached the peak of their powers and could be losing 2 of their 3 most important players in Begovic and N'Zonzi - it'll be interesting to see how they get on from here. The only teams who can sustain the high wages and high transfer fees are the 'big 6' - the fact that we are usually amongst these teams shows that our investment in what we're got is justified but sadly we'd have to look off the pitch to explain why we're not in the same bracket overall.
