  1. I mentioned this video in another thread. Might as well post it here. He looks a strong, good-in-possession CB who can pick and pinpoint a pass. Can't tell anything about positional awareness, but his decision-making seems great and he definitely appears one for the future. Could see a potential CB logjam in a few years with him, Keane and Holgate, not to mention Foulds and Galloway.
  2. Potentially high upside, haha. I agree; I'm not put off by this one at all. It just doesn't fit alongside any of our other signings. Even Markelo, who's a CB, has a 5 and a half minute highlight reel on youtube.
  3. If we can't look at form as a way of determining how a player will contribute for us, no one should be making any judgments on any of our transfer dealings. It's all speculation. Shit, with your logic, maybe this French kid we just signed will end up being our starting #9 for the rest of the season and score 30 goals. No reason to believe he will, but anything can happen, right? Rooney's form has been rapidly declining the last few years. He was incredible as a teenager and he peaked a bit early. That's okay. He's still had an amazing career and can probably contribute a lot somewhere with less ambition than Man U or Everton. But we can safely say that the likes of Gana and Schneiderlin are going to have more of an on-field contribution than Rooney if he signs. It's likely that several other players will, too. Just like we can safely speculate that Keane will be a better CB this season than Jags. Age and declining form tell us so. That said, I don't believe in paying a player because of things he used to do or how good he used to be or how many titles he won. I believe in paying a player for the value that they add now. Rooney's made a ton of money in his career. If he wants to come play for Everton, wrap up his golden boy story and contribute something, he should fall in line with the pay structure at Everton. We don't pay our top contributors 250k per week. Only two players last season earned more than 75k a week. Signing a declining player at more than twice that does not send a good message or establish a good precedent for future contract dealings. He may be a winner and a leader, but he hasn't been leading or winning much (he didn't even play in the Europa League final until the 90th minute) with Man U the past few years despite having a lot of very talented players around him because he's not that good anymore.
  4. I can't even find videos of him playing. He only made 2 senior appearances for Metz, both of them as a substitute for a total of 20 minutes. With this transfer window as it has been, this one is pretty underwhelming, but I'm sure he came cheap and hopefully he'll give the U23s another attacking option.
  5. Bottom line is that you should care about how much they pay him, because you don't want the rest of the team pissed off that a guy who is likely to contribute far less on the field is making well over twice their wages. There may be bandwagon fans. Personally, I like living in the States and having people who know football look at me dumbfounded when I tell them I support Everton. It'll make it that much sweeter when we get to where we deserve to be. And finally, yes, Koeman and his support team know far more than we do. Koeman also was responsible for signing and starting Stekelenburg over Robles for a good portion of the season. Koeman's superior knowledge doesn't make him infallible.
  6. IN: Pickford Klaassen (Onyekuru) Ramirez Keane OUT: Kone Cleverley McAleny Deulofeu LOAN IN: LOAN OUT: Onyekuru Galloway YOUTH: Markelo Mathis U-23s EXTENSIONS: Charsley Broadhead Hewelt Duffus Jones Dyson Kiersey Lavery Brammall Gray EXTENSIONS (since January): Pennington DCL Mirallas Davies Coleman That's a busier window than I've seen in my 5ish years as a supporter and it's barely started.
  7. Some reports suggesting a free transfer with 250k in wages. I don't care how free his transfer is; if we're paying him 250k a week it's a total disgrace to the rest of our players.
  8. Because the club have to accept any and all offers at the release clause. No club would bid more, because all offers at the release clause must be accepted and it's up to the player to decide where he goes. The player won't have his head turned by a higher offer; he'll go wherever he wants to go and wherever pays him the highest wages.
  9. He seems to mind. You had the misfortune of being pinned to the top of the page, Paul. That's obvious, though, right?
  10. Well, there is this (though I don't follow him on Instagram to verify that this was today): http://metro.co.uk/2017/07/03/chelsea-target-romelu-lukaku-adds-fuel-to-manchester-united-transfer-rumours-with-cheeky-instagram-video-6750722/
  11. As much as I understand the extent to which your system is shit, I'm not quite sure it can compare to the circus fuckery of the American system. The current legislation proposed by the GOP is mind-blowingly awful, and many hospitals are struggling as is. Seven years is a long time, but one of my best friends works at a hospital in Massachusetts where many of the nurses have been on the same pay for seventeen years and are on the verge of having their pensions wiped. Some truly insane horseshit.
  12. Maybe he can give us 55 minutes instead of 50.
  13. No chance of that anymore. Maybe they felt their hand was forced with Onyekuru since he'd already posted it to social media and they'll announce Sandro and Keane together tomorrow after the U21 championship. One can hope.

  15. Fast, aggressive and powerful. Like Deulofeu but not a dandelion. He really does seem a very similar player, but maybe a little bit better at pressing and with better stamina.
  16. I think you're nailed on with the last paragraph. I'm not saying players are happy or content to sit on the bench. I'm saying they know that's their role and they're willing to take on that role knowing they're either playing for a bigger club than the one they came from, or they're biding time for a bigger opportunity. From the horse's mouth: "As a young player I had to compete with Harry Kane - the top scorer of the Premier League - arguably the toughest league in the world, and a striker who is performing remains in the team."
  17. Realistically, any RB who comes to Everton knows that we extended Coleman's contract after his injury. They'll know we value him and they'll know that unless they are world-beating in their time as a fill-in, that the starting job will be his when he returns. They'll also know we have a promising young RB in Kenny who performed incredibly well for England's U20s. We won't be signing any top RBs because footballers aren't that naive. Any RB we do sign will be content to fill a role and hope to perform as well as they can to make the manager's decision tougher when Coleman is healthy.
