  1. He looks tidy on the ball, quick and deceptive, but echoing others' thoughts on here, just don't see why we'd go for another number 10 while we still have Siggy, Klaassen and Dowell on the books.
  2. Happy with this. Nostalgia is fine and all, but he's just not good enough to take us forward.
  3. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stat-explains-exactly-wayne-rooney-14398366.amp I missed this when it happened, but it's pretty damning. Really should have never been taking penalties for us to begin with (though I'll be forever grateful for the one he notched against the shite). The fact is, he scored some timely goals that helped us quite a lot in the first half of the season. But if you go back to that first half of the season, plenty of us were complaining then about his propensity to make bad passes and give the ball away. He's slow, tries to do a bit too much because he wants to prove that he still has it, and seems to have his morale easily shaken in his advanced age as his skills decrease. If we think that the occasional flash of vision, ocassional ability to find himself in good space around the penalty box (this accounts for pretty much all his non-penalty goals minus the one against City and the strike from midfield), and his leadership qualities are enough to keep him around another year, so be it. Personally I don't think those contributions are going to do much to move us forward and improve our league position. They were helpful for a side that was floundering and needed points against the run of play, but I think his legs and his 77% pass accuracy are a detriment to a side that wants to play consistent attacking football.
  4. http://www.espnfc.com/soccer-transfers/story/3517575/wayne-rooney-still-in-talks-with-dc-united-over-move-evertons-marco-silva Silva says Rooney's in contract talks with DC.
  5. Appreciate it. I’m sure I’m being a tad melodramatic, but it has been disheartening thinking about the periods of economic downturn and slow recovery that have resulted from the actions of my country’s last three Republican presidents, and I think Trump will have done more damage than any of them by the time he’s done.
  6. Nah, but the normal faith I’d have in my investments to grow enough that I could stay in my current field and still retire at some point is being shattered.
  7. Agree with Bailey 100% here. Rooney had the same player rating as Niasse on the season according to whoscored and his pass percentage was a full 7 points lower than your favorite player Gana. Rooney was not much, if any, above a replacement level player for us, and if we want better football and better results next season, he really shouldn’t be anywhere near our squad. You’re seeing him through blue-tinted glasses, which is understandable, but not very realistic.
  8. My investments are already suffering. I'm going back to school at 30 to make sure I have a job that will pay me legitimate money.
  9. He was our top scorer almost by default, though. By midseason, he was tired and beyond unproductive. Even early on, his goal scoring record hid some pretty disastrous performances. I appreciate the sentiment, but Man U traded strikers with us for a reason.
  10. Agree with Bill here 100%. Give Seamus the armband unless he's off the pitch. His heart is on his sleeve more than anyone we've had at the club since Cahill. Jags has served the club well but has always seemed an unwilling captain. His leadership has been positive but soft and underspoken. We need a little fire to carry us forward and Seamus has that. I'm almost positive Jags will be happy to be out of the limelight.
  11. All spot on. I'm not a fighter but I'll cut a throat to defend the people I love.
  12. OK but Seamus is the one who you mocked for saying it and trying to motivate his team to do the same.
  13. No. He came on a free and took a fairly serious wage cut, though still makes as much in an hour of sleep as I make in a week.
  14. The crazy part is the pedigree of most of these players will be so much better than any we've had and, like players from the European powerhouse national squads, they're playing for the best teams in their respective leagues. To have players from PSG, Dortmund, PSV Eindhoven, and Benfica is quite a step up in winning mentality from even our last world cup squad where Howard, Dempsey, Bradley and Cameron were not used to winning much in the way of trophies.

  16. Playing pretty well so far. Looks confident.
  17. Anybody who wants to be thoroughly depressed and a little scared should watch A Handmaid's Tale on hulu. Very well made and kinda horrifying in our current geopolitical state.
  18. I was about to book a ticket to London if that had been true.
  19. I'd put more stock in the article if it was even close to getting the conversion rate correct.
  20. We'd miss hungry, first half of the season Rooney, but certainly not the second half version.
  21. This one says on loan. Bummer if true. I don't really understand these work permits at all. It would seem fair to me that if a player has enough top-flight appearances in any of the top 10 leagues in the world, he should be able to play in any of the others. All the shit about international caps seems way too complicated and unneccessary. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/05/17/report-henry-onyekuru-on-his-way-at-everton-will-join-borussia-m/
  22. The last two are inevitable, but we've all seen what massive overhaul can do to a squad. I think most of this forum, at least, will be more than satisfied as long as Brands brings in a good player or three who fill the obvious needs of the squad, and as long as the manager who is brought in gets the team playing in a moderately attractive, cohesive style. That's all anyone asked for in the first place, isn'tt it? Nothing but the best?
  23. Lookman, Vlasic and Walcott are already the most promising group of wingers we've had in my years as an Everton fan. Add one more goal threat to that mix, another proper striker with a different skill set than Tosun (i.e. pace and trickery) and I think our attack is well sorted with Gylfi/Klaassen in the middle.
