  1. This wouldn’t even satisfy me. We need a LB.
  2. It’s kind of absurd how underrated Croatia are. Two players from Real, two from Inter, two from Juventus, one from Barca, one from Atletico and a host of players who play for top 3 teams in their respective leagues, from Turkey to Ukraine to Russia and Germany. From top to bottom, they’re probably the most impressive squad left in the tournament.
  3. Things have changed a bit since then. I think he’ll do a lot marketing-wise for D.C.
  4. Quoted your shorter one just to save time, but this is in response to your previous post. I see three main problems with your reasoning in the first 12 or so paragraphs: 1. The majority of families being separated were families coming from Central America seeking asylum from gangs. Seeking asylum in the U.S. by crossing the border is not illegal. Knowing this, most of those folks actively sought out border patrol agents, expecting to be met by the same legal process that many others have gone through, and instead were jailed and separated from their children in clear violation of the established legal process for seeking asylum. I repeat: most of these people followed a legal process. They did NOT enter the country illegally. 2. The idea that undocumented immigrants are an economic drain on the U.S. is specious at best. Immigrants, for the most part, pay taxes. From Forbes (not exactly your bastion of progressive economic scholarship): https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/10/06/how-much-tax-do-americas-undocumented-immigrants-actually-pay-infographic/#160573291de0 In my mind, $11.64 billion is no small contribution to our system given the generally low-paying nature of the jobs that undocumented immigrants take. Add to that the fact that they are far less likely to take advantage of most public services out of fear of being discovered and the argument falls apart even further. 3. Finally, much of the rhetoric you’ve used seems to be at least partially informed by some of the hate-mongering of the current administration. Undocumented immigrants are far less likely to be a “criminal or malcontent” than are native born Americans. They are not “illegals;” they are people seeking a better life for themselves. They don’t “hate our country;” they’re afraid that if they stay in their own country, they either won’t be able to provide for their families or they will be murdered by a gang who likely originated in the U.S. and is supplying drugs mostly to Americans. It’s not a huge leap to say that NAFTA and the American government’s willingness to over-subsidize certain crops (corn) with American taxpayer money to the detriment of our own health played a massive part in the collapse of at least the Mexican economy (undocumented immigration from Mexico is on a consistent decline as the Mexican economy recovers), and that it’s a bit evil to turn that back around on them. Immigration is a very complex issue, and our system is broken beyond belief. But nationalism nearly always DOES have roots in xenophobia, and clearly lacking from any discussion of immigration from this administration is even the faintest degree of empathy.
  5. Don’t understand on what basis anyone can say this. I’m quite happy he’s gone.
  6. Glad he salvaged a little confidence. He admirably recovered from his last outing; he looked pretty solid all game and put in some dangerous balls from set pieces. That Iceland team will only get better with their youth setup, and hopefully Gylfi will still be up to it in four years' time.
  7. Glad someone put a shout in there for Coleman. Maybe the best value for any player on any team in the PL era.
  8. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/06/22/everton-director-of-football-marcel-brands-selling-ramiro-funes/ Obviously nothing more than a rumor, but if true, pretty insane.
  9. Not a good performance. OK in the first half, but I think the heat really affected that whole squad. They're not a quick team to begin with and rely on plenty of hard work and grit, but you could see they had nothing left to give in the second half.
  10. Rough game having just gotten back from Iceland. Gylfi made some really bad mistakes in the second half.
  11. If we just got 17.5 for Funes Mori, that's the steal of the century.
  12. Saw those. I’d lose my mind. Regardless, you lot from England might as well hire Allardyce back for these tactics.
  13. Holy shit I will be partying hard in Iceland tonight.
  14. He certainly looks it in this Spain v Portgual match.
  15. This Spain Portugal game, though. De Gea pulling a Karius.
  16. Two goals in 23 appearances? That’s Bolasie-esque.
  17. Gonna arrive in Iceland on vacation toward the end of their first match and leaving the day before their second. I’ve heard their fandom is pretty unparalelled and with Gylfi being their best player, I’m super bummed I won’t be able to root for them with their fans.
  18. We saw that in the previous season playing for Man U and it wasn’t great. There’s a reason they let him come to us on a free.
  19. So true, though this rarely happens in baseball anymore because teams have been around their locales so long. Part of the difference in culture is that all of our other professional sports have half the history of British football.
  20. I agree with pete0 and palfy on something that I don't know enough about. Uh oh.
  21. Hah. Touche. Still think a slightly chilled light red (think garnacha) is pretty delicious.
  22. All depends on the varietal and style. The vast majority of reds should be consumed at room temp, but there are a few that are totally ok to drink slightly cooler (and you're right that it's about the tannins). They should all be stored slightly below room temp as well (55-60 Fahrenheit). https://www.eater.com/2016/8/17/12519014/red-wine-chilled
