  1. ??? We brought him into the senior squad only 3 months after he signed for us from Sheffield. I don’t think he’s good enough, either, but someone clearly thought he was.
  2. This is not at all how I saw the match. Kenny was decent and put in some great crosses - definitely one of our better players on the day. I might as well have been in for Holgate. Zouma was uninspiring and average, but wasn’t really responsible for any of their goals. Digne was solid minus the second Yarmolenko goal and offered the most going forward of any player. Siggy had a solid first half and a terrible second half... he seems to have lost his set piece ability completely. Walcott worked hard but nothing came off for him today. Gana was very poor as were Pickford, DCL and Schneiderlin. I know it’s said often, but it really is crazy how differently people see things.
  3. Everyone who played for us last season bar Siggy and Kenny have been awful. New players have been ok.
  4. They’re not very good so they’ll probably only beat us 5-1.
  5. C’mon Pete he’s had a stinker but that’s just comical. Arnautovic 1v1 with Holgate and just burns him.
  6. Sorry but I think it’s far more likely that they win 4-1.
  7. DCL is slow as fuck. Should have been off to the races there but he can never get his first touch quite right.
  8. I think he just looks slow because he’s so tall. I know we’ve been too far forward and he’s had loads of space, but no one can catch up to him.
  9. He didn’t recognize it soon enough. I know yarmolenko has giraffe legs, but a sprint could have at least thrown him off. You can see him slow down when the ball goes back to midfield before it’s one-touched forward back to Arnautovic.
  10. Thought Digne was pretty culpable for that goal... didn’t look to fully recognize the danger in Yarmolenko in front of him and didn’t sprint until far too late. But he almost redeemed himself there.
  11. What a pass there by Gana. Better control from DCL and that’s a surefire goal.
  12. Do we have a single player in this side who played against Kiev?
  13. He stopped to sign autographs today at least.
  14. All good on the notifications... seemed to only get one. I guess my perception of “best player” has more to do with talent and ability than importance to our team. Being the club that we are, sometimes a bit soft and always having to fight for points against the top 6, I can see a case being made for a healthy McCarthy being our most important player and that we miss his presence more than we might miss any other player in our current squad. That said, he hasn’t put together a healthy season where he played more than 28 games since his first season here, and on ability alone, I don’t think he cracks the top 5. It’s the work rate and attitude that propel him into the conversation for importance, but I still don’t see how he can be considered the best we have.
  15. I love McCarthy as much as the next guy for his comittment and work rate, but our best player?
  16. I don’t give a shit about tennis and I don’t hold Serena Williams in high esteem. I do think that standards of behavior are very different for men and women. Take this article, for example (long read, but quite worth it): https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/565778/ The subtleties of patriarchy are extremely nuanced and not often perceptible, but they’re very strong. We all have very concrete ideas of what “men” and “women” should behave like, and to deny that we have those inclinations is dishonest. Whether you believe those ideas to be okay or correct is a different question, but to deny that we all have different standards is a little blind. And yeah. It’s easier to hold people who you don’t respect as much to higher standards than people who you see as equals. See every genocide and every form of slavery to ever exist.
  17. Cool articles. One is an opinion from 30 years after the fact and the other is a “warning” with no punishment. Get out of here with that shit. Serena’s behavior is suddenly an international phenomenon, yet she didn’t use a single word of profanity, didn’t break her equipment, didn’t threaten the umpire, and corrected the crowd when they booed the result.
