  1. Wasn't sure which thread was most appropriate so started a new one. With the endless complaints about our lack of spending I wanted to track the results of the season based on transfer spending. Here is NET SPEND and TOTAL SPEND for Summer 2015:

    Man City: 101.3; 154.2

    Man Utd: 43.4; 115.3

    Newcastle: 42; 47.8

    Chelsea: 38.1; 73.3

    Watford: 31.6; 35.7

    West Ham: 29.6; 34.6

    West Brom: 24.8; 31.5

    Bournemouth: 23; 24

    Liverpool: 21.7; 88

    Leicester: 20.4; 26.9

    CP: 18.5; 25.3

    Everton: 15.1; 15.6

    Sunderland: 14; 23

    Tottenham: 12.3; 53.2

    Arsenal: 10.7; 13

    Norwich: 9.9; 10

    Swansea: 9.6; 10.1

    Aston Villa: 8.9; 53.4

    Stoke: 3.3; 21.3

    Southampton: 3.2; 41.7

Spent less than us NET SPEND: Sunderland, Tottenham, Arsenal, Norwich, Swansea, Aston Villa, Stoke, Southampton

Spent less than us TOTAL SPEND: Arsenal, Norwich, Swansea

When May 2016 rolls around let's see where we stand in comparison to those who spent more/less than us.

  2. My biggest pet peeve in the world is people complaining about things they cannot control. It is such a waste of time and energy that could be put to better use.

Here is the only fact about Everton at present that truly matters: Whether or not Everton has money to spend on transfers is completely irrelevant. The board has proven in its current format over say the past 10-15 years that it will not spend a lot of money on transfers. The board is running Everton as it would any other business. As such there are other costs/investments that take priority.

If you want to complain about the board members and structure please do so. We, as fans, can have an impact on that. But please for the love of god stop complaining about transfer spending. It is such a waste of time.

  3. 8/10 for reasons mentioned above.

    Good

Distin, Alcaraz gone - only minimal covered needed in Funes Mori. Trust/faith in Galloway/Browning

    Deulofeu complete steal at price

Cleverley on a free is a top 10 transfer in the whole PL.

    Lennon another shrewd signing

Kept Stones which looked impossible in June

    Investing in future with Henen/Rodriguez/Holgate

Still think Barkley can be the solution in the 10 role. I know that opinion is not shared by many.

    Bad

No capable backup striker signed. Not a fan of Kone's at all and Naismith has too many weaknesses to be consistent threat.

McGeady not sold. Really wanted him gone.

  4. because, as much as we love him, he cannot defend for toffee

Think its more so just about fitness. hes played a handful of games in 2 full years and his first appearance this season was 120mins, asking him to come back 3 days later is very very difficult.

  5. Given ET on Wednesday i could see this

    Howard

    Coleman Stones Jags Barry

    McCarthy Cleverley

    Deulofeu Barkley Kone

    Lukaku

No chance Oviedo/Besic start. Dont have much choice at LB. Cant see Mirallas starting after 110mins.

Whats the deal with ozzie? Not listed on injury list but wasnt included in 18 yesterday. Anyone find that strange?

  6. Not sure of this stuff aimed at 'BarnsleyFan'. Seems a bit OTT.

Having pops at the lad for his club being in League 1 and being bitter...then having pops at Chelsea for being plastic, buying success, having no history etc. Who sounds bitter?

If Stones goes, it will be gutting. As gutting as it was for Barnsley fans when he left them. Stones made a natural progression from them to us. He MIGHT now make another natural progression.

I really really really wish football business was different. I really really really wish that we could hold onto these obvious young talents and head into the top 4 causing a footballing revolution and proving that it can be done. But money talks. And we don't have any. Our players know that and our fans know that (read the board thread...but somehow we still act shocked when this happens!). So given the chance, players will make that jump if given the chance to. It's fuckin annoying as a fan, but it's also 'real life'.

IF he has handed in a request, let him go and get every last penny we can get.

IF he does go. Wish him well and thank him for being a good player for this club.

IF it all goes through, and you ever see his agent, Jose or any of these rag journalists in the street...Rip their bollocks right off and stamp on them.

    That's all.

    Absolutely spot on!

  7. Those three will cost more than 40 million and we'd only get between 30-35 anyway if the deal is 40 mil. Could maybe get two of those (probably not Yarmolenko), but still wouldn't be worth losing Stones.

Supposedly willing to pay 20 for Yarmolenko without the stones sales - shouldnt change with it.

  8. Sorry forgot about 5/6

    5. Lukaku on an island almost the entire game. Received little help from Kone because of his defensive duties. Can't find much fault in his performance.

    6. The substitutions were absolutely shocking! I cant remember a game where i was more disappointed in the subs which for an everton fan to say is alot because we are consistently the most frustrating team in terms of subs. RM has shown a willingness to play Barry at LB. Play the final 3 mins of the half with 10 and take your time to think about the sub for Galloway at half time. Bringing browning on was such a knee jerk reaction. Naismith for kone? WTF is that. Has to be mirallas there and i dont even like mirallas. Gerry with 5 mins left? Why bother? First appearance is PL in 2 years he needs more than 5 mins to find his feet. What a waste.

Most disappointed in the subs and brownings performance. City simply the best team in the league right now.

  9. Main takeaways for me - not much that hasnt been said already.

    1. Man City are simply a much better side, especially at this moment. I'm a firm believer in the old adage its not who you play its when you play them. City will be beatable at some point this season but in this form they could challenge the Arsenal invincibles.

    2. Coleman, Stones, Jags, Barry, Barkley, Cleverley stood out for me.

    3. Browning was a complete disaster. I totally understand that not being his natural position and him im sure not expecting to play but come on lad at least put a shift in. His effort was abysmal. Truly shocking even from a youngster.

    4. Howard overall had a great game and made some unbelievable saves but there is no question he is at fault for the first goal. Cannot ever happen. Who knows what happens if we dont concede that soft goal.

  10. Just two semi-quick points and im done:

Preface: I still support RM but by no means am i his biggest fan...

    1) Like most i am unbelievably frustrated that Gareth Barry continues to be in the starting XI. Surely his contract says he must start and play 90 mins in every game he is fit. That is the only logical explanation i can come up with. I would get it if we were keeping clean sheets all the time and he was the rock in the midfield - but we arent and his isnt. With the addition of Cleverley sit McCarthy in the deeper role and be more dynamic going forward. Also taking out Galloway makes no sense. You have to chase the game - leave in the young legs and ability to get forward.

    2) The human element of this team/league cannot be ignored. Losing baines hurts from a lb perspective tactically but it also affects the mindset of the entire team. Especially given it happened in the final training session before the match. No question Everton are fragile mentally - need a boost with new signings. Get lennon in this week.
