Shrewd bit of business I think,  couple of seasons prem experience, albeit with a shit defence in front of him, 30 and  an international, bit like getting Heaton on a free, probably worth 10-15m on a transfer

Bingo. He could not play a game this season and we could still profit a minimum of 5m off him next summer if he wants to leave.

    LOAN OUT:
    YOUTH: Sebastian Kristensen
YOUTH pro deals: Ryan Astley, Kyle John, Anthony Gordon, Ellis Simms, Joe Anderson, Einar Iversen
    CONTRACT EXT: Davies

Out of contract: Jags, Baines, A Williams, Pennington, Dowell, Connolly, Hewelt, JHilton, Foulds, Ouzounidis, Charsley, Lavery, Mathis, Mampala, Sambou

  3. We're nearly unanimous in feeling anything less than top 6 in 19/20 is a disappointment. Which we have every right to feel. So...what is the path to getting there?

City - nailed on top 6 unless Guardiola leaves. Even if that did happen got to be 95% they finish top 6.

Liverpool - pains to say but again nailed on top 6 if Klopp and Salah stay. Even if they both leave it still has to be 90% they finish top 6.

Spurs - could only fall to 7th if Poch leaves

That leaves Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd: Chelsea have the transfer ban and look like losing Hazard. Arsenal should strengthen an already good squad. Man Utd likely to spend big this summer.

Arsenal look the strongest there so looks like we'd have to compete with them if we want 4th while Chelsea and Man Utd are competition for 5/6.

The other thing that needs consideration/watching over the summer is who else outside the top 6 has our aspirations. Wolves and Leicester look strong competition.

    What do you think blues?

  5. Not to derail this lovely bickering, I'm curious what folks think is the probability (%) Gana is an Everton player when the summer transfer window closes. FWIW I'd put it at 40%. I'm not so much worried about replacing his exact skills, more so he will be sold late on to a desperate club and we'll be left out in the cold for a replacement. Brands has known since January this could be coming so hopefully he's prepared.

  6. Must give credit to team for turning this picture around in recent weeks.

    11-12: 3-1-8 10pts; 12-13: 3-6-3 15pts; 13-14: 4-3-5 15pts; 14-15: 1-4-7 7pts; 15-16: 1-5-6 8pts; 16-17: 2-4-6 10pts; 17-18 0-4-8 4pts; 18-19 3-2-6 10pts

    Utd 5-3-9 18pts; City 3-5-8 14pts; Chelsea 4-3-9 15pts; Spurs 2-5-8 11pts; Arsenal 3-4-9 13pts; Shite 0-9-7 9pts

Last time we beat each team in the league:

    • Utd - April 26 2015 UPDATE: APRIL 21 2019
    • City - January 15 2017
    • Chelsea - September 12 2015 UPDATE: MARCH 17 2019
    • Arsenal - December 13 2016 UPDATE: APRIL 7 2019
    • Spurs - December 9 2012
    • Shite - October 17 2010

Last time we beat a top 6 team away: December 4 2013

    Record since 11-12 in games against top 6 away: 1 - 15 - 32

  7. Sorry to start a new thread, this question was sprinkled into a few other threads but couldn't find a logical place to weave this in.

Took a look at PL clubs who qualified for Europa League (current format started in 09-10) in lowest qualifying round:

    09-10 Liverpool 7th - finished 6th in 10-11

    10-11 Stoke 14th* - finished 13th in 11-12

    11-12 Liverpool 7th - finished 8th in 12-13

    12-13 Swansea 12th* - finished 9th in 13-14

    13-14 Hull 16th* - finished relegated in 14-15

    14-15 Southampton 7th - finished 6th in 15-16

    15-16 West Ham 7th - finished 11th in 16-17

    16-17 Everton 7th - finished 8th in 17-18

    17-18 Burnely 7th - finished between 13th and 16th this year.

*There were a few odd years, mostly due to FA/Carabao cup performances and fair play, where teams that didn't finish 7th still qualified for Europa.

FWIW we have competed in the Europa League three times (09/10, 14/15, 17/18) we have finished 8th, 11th, 8th in the PL table those years.

The stats above are just for reference, normally I'd say absolutely want Europa but I just have a feeling this year isn'tt one where it would help us. We've got a real opportunity next year to strengthen in 2-3 areas, shrink the squad, be consistent and cohesive and make a run at 4th. Europa could derail most of that. I'm in the camp with those who prefer 8th.

  8. "If Everton were a boxer, we’d be talking about their footwork rather than their raw punching power, and that’s a sign of improving health."

That line is absolute gold. We'll meet our top 4 and trophy goals as our proverbial footwork improves. We can't really on punching power to be successful which is what we tried to do up until Brands' showed up and had a brilliant summer.

  9. This summer is going to be fascinating! From an outgoing perspective what is realistic for Marcel?

Out of contract: Jags, Baines, Ashley Williams?, Callum Connolly?, Kieran Dowell?, M Hewelt?

Returning to parent clubs: Gomes, Zouma

Dead wood: Schneiderlin, Pennington, Bolasie, Sandro, Cuco, Niasse, Garbutt, Mirallas, Tarashaj

Real question marks: Stek, Walcott, Tosun, McCarthy, Besic, Vlasic, J Williams, Beni

If you remove out of contract, returning to parent clubs and dead wood you are left with:

    GK:  Pickford, Stek, J Virginia

    LB: Digne, A Robinson

    CB: Keane, Mina, Holgate

    RB: Coleman, Kenny

CM: Gana, Davies, McCarthy, Besic, J Williams, Beni

W: Richarlison, Bernard, Walcott, Lookman, Onyekuru

    AM: Siggy, Vlasic, Dowell

    ST: DCL, Tosun

  10. Sort of off-topic but perhaps Walsh wasn't that bad?

    Good

Gana, Lookman, DCL, Pickford, Keane, Gylfi, Vlasic, Rooney

    Indifferent

Stek, Valencia, Mangala, Martina, Walcott, Tosun

    Bad

    Williams, Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Klaassen

I said Vlasic good because we're going to sell him for more than we bought him for. Walcott and Tosun indifferent because we can probably get back a decent chunk of the transfer fees in transfers and they have played well enough to justify the difference. And i really don't like Walcott.
