  2. I've changed my mind a bit already re: the everton firsts bit.. What do you think of this ? Personally I think it looks quite smart It's just for fun
  3. He's gone.. good luck to him. I wonder who will be brought in. Maybe it's been on the cards for a while and that's why Paul Bennett was brought in from Crewe. i.e. Andy Holden will be brought in as assistant with Paul Bennet could take over reserves.
  4. Development Securities have launched their own development plan and website, with one factor missing, that being the proposed stadium. http://www.ourkirkby.com - There is no stadium This was found on toffeeweb:
  5. I can see Pienaar signing permanent so it won't be a problem if it is
  6. I know this is an old subject but I would like to dig it up again.. as we now know Nike successfully bought out Umbro. I was reading an article about how the Nike head kit designer makes contact with club supporter groups and asks them what they would like to see in the kit. The main examples given were the Aston Villa and the Celtic kit - incidentally both are commemorative of European Cup wins this season. Taking into account Nikes acquisition Umbro may start to look at what fans want instead of having a standard design but changing the three colours around. They gave fans the chance to say what they would like on kit - "For it's a grand old team play for" is written on the bottom left of the shirt, they requested the gold star for the 1967 European Cup win, as it is the 40th anniversary of the win they have written 25 MAIO 1967 – LEÕES DE LISBOA – 40° ANIVERSARIO (25th May 1967, Lisbon Lions, 40th Anniversary) on the shirt... It's becoming a common theme now but if Everton are the people's club why not give the supporter groups the opportunity to have something unique on the kit? I'd like to see a few "Everton firsts" around the neckline - Founder members of the Football League in 1888, Founder members of the FA Premier League in 1992, First club to construct a purpose-built football stadium, First club to issue a regular match programme for home fixtures, First club to wear numbered shirts from 1-11 - 1933 FA Cup final, First club to play 4000 top-flight games, First club to amass 5000 League points, First club to play 100 seasons in the top-fight This is not dissimilar to Arsenal's current away kit which has a list of Herbert Chapman's input to the game on the shirt. Maybe we could have a "If you know your history" on the bottom left of the shirt Next season is the 130th in the clubs history... maybe they will have a special commemorative shirt for that (probably will if Wyness sees the opportunity!). Incidentally in two years time one commemorative I would like to see would be based on the 1969/1970 kit... the one that the likes of Gordon West (goalkeeper equivalent anyway), Alan Whittle, Ray Wilson, Tommy Wright, Alex Young, Howard Kendall, Roger Kenyon, Brian Labone, Morrissey, Joe Royle, Alan Ball, Sandy Brown, Colin Harvey, John Hurst, Jim Husband all played in. Does anyone have thoughts as to what they'd like to see in such a shirt?

  8. This year Burnley had a promising 14 year old player called John Cofie on their books and some Premiership clubs were interested in signing him.. one of the interested clubs (not too far from our own ) instructed the player's agent to withhold said player from training with Burnley until he signed for the club.. when that club tabled an offer... it was rejected out of hand, the play was unhappy about this but a bid was accepted by Manchester United who went through all of the proper channels...
  9. Is that you on the left? It's always nice to see a bit of loyalty
  10. I was talking about talent on our doorstep 250, Toxteth to be exact..
  11. If he were to leave what kind of replacement would you look for? Tried and tested british, someone on the continent, south american, african or asian?
  12. Fundamentally I don't, the reason is because the boy from Dovecot will be x generation English and will have grown up with football on the television and in all of the newspapers, he'll talk about it in school and probably play it with his friends. The opportunities for the boy to make it in football already exist. The people that the topic post is concerning are those of second generation who's parents have grown up in their origin country and moved to Liverpool due to war or they want a better life for their children than they beleive their origin country could offer. The same children who are isolated and currently play no sport but have the potential to be great sportsmen. The children may grow up and decide to form their own football league away from everybody else because they have never socialised/integrated with others (as has happened with Indian communities). Trevor Brooking said the players are very skilfull but because they dont play with other cultures their style of football is not suited for the english profession and by 15 it is too late for them to make it as a pro. Five years ago you wouldn't have thought that one of England's most promising boxers is of Pakistan descent or promising cricketers of Indian descent (actually, you would). What I'm saying Zed is that we (Everton) should work with people who wouldn't normally get the opportunity because of social or cultural reasons Although in hindsight maybe Ethnic minorities wasn't the best title for the topic
  13. Are Everton doing enough to get kids from a minority background involved with football? I was reading a magazine earlier this week that concluded of 2.3million Asians in the country, only 5 are professional players. Now I understand that London, Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford reportedly have the largest minority communities in the country but after Liverpool 08 a lot more people of minority backgrounds will be coming to Liverpool. After a quick search on the internet I found that 5% of Liverpool citizens are of a ethnic minority. Off the top of my head I can think of several small communities in Toxteth area where I lived last year; Yemeni, Somali, Chinese, Polish, Bangladeshi and the Caribbean centre on Upper Parliament street tries cater for all, not just the caribbean people. In Toxteth each community seemingly fails to socialise with the others but it may be naive of me but I think that Everton could help integrate the communities together by inviting children to play football together at a sports local club. I think Walsall(?) have a similar partnership with a Khalsa Academy in their area, they introduce kids to other kids and have regular football games and the best players are put through to the school of excellence as part of the deal. It's the incentive for parents to allow their children to play. Wolves have encouraged Asian people to go to their games and even gone as far as to have a Wolves Punjabi supporters club and given them official supporters club trust status. It works both ways, the communities become a bit more integrated and Everton are able to look at more youth players in the area. We have signed Chinese players in the past we all know about Li Tie's exploites until his injury took away his sparkle whilst Li Wei Feng lost his on the flight over here and I remember a piece in the echo saying it was encouraging otherwise neutral Chinese people in the city to take an active interest in the club. We have three Anglo-Poles currently in the squad all of whom have been brought in by Moyes, Jagielka, Johnson and Jutkiewicz - maybe Lukasz' international selection will tilt a few Polish heads in our direction. Three players in ten years have come through the youth ranks had Danny Cadamarteri (England, Italy, Nigeria, Jamaica and Ireland!), James Vaughan (Mixed Race - it will be interesting to see if he switches international allegiance should his England hopes falter - although they shouldn't)and Vic Anichebe (Nigeria/England) but in my opinion it could and should be more. Thanks for reading
  14. Welcome to TT Noddy, a nice informative first post - thank you Do you know why he chose Everton above the other clubs?
  15. I thought you still could in Devon!?
  16. The club has to pay the transfer fee to the selling club. In the club accounts it then has to report how much it views each player's worth has declined each year. So for example Yakubu for £11.5m on a four year contract costs the club 11.5/4 = £2.875m per year. This is what is reported as 'amortisation' in the club accounts. At the end of the contract the player can just leave on a 'free' so he is viewed as potentially no worth to the business after that. This only covers the costs for players bought in. So Tony Hibbert, for example, does not have any effect on the amortisation costs of the club, as he was never bought from another club. Also once a player has finished his initial contract he stops being counted. So Mikel Arteta, Andy Johnson and Tim Cahill for example has no effect. Call me a cynic but that could be the real reason for the players to sign new deals... if you don't look into too much details it looks like we are saving £9million this year in comparison to last..
  17. Yorkie, I think you'll find he is the Basque around
  18. Don't sit on the fence, tell us what you really think? I am beginning to think that the Echo are back peddling recently... in the past two days, this has all been released: They have published 'proper' images of how the stadium will look. They have mentioned that the Bestway are still allowing Everton to use their land for a stadium. They have mentioned that HOK have said a 55,000 staduim can be built in the city centre Last week they said how 71 houses will have to be demolished for the new stadium.
  19. Finch Farm must be paying dividends already if he knocked back Arsenal and Man Utd in favour of us.

  21. http://pinoysoccer.com/asean/man-city-to-s...ai-players.html BANGKOK (AFP) - English Premier League club Manchester City, owned by ousted Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, plan to sign three Thai players, a football club chairman said Monday. City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who took the helm after Thaksin bought the club in July, is due to arrive in Thailand on Friday to make the signings, said Vittaya Khunpleum, chairman of Thai side Chonburi FC. Two of the players -- Suree Sukha and Kietprawut Sai-aeo -- come from his club, while the other player is Theerasil Daengda from Bangkok's Muangthong-Nongchok United FC, Vittaya said. He said the chairman of the Football Association of Thailand told him about Eriksson's visit and the signings, and hailed it as a chance to showcase Asian and Thai football. "Our players are qualified. If they can play in the (Man City) first team, football will become more interesting and it will help professional football in Thailand," Vittaya said. "It is lucky that the chairman of the club is Thai," he added. Thaksin, who was deposed in a coup in September 2006, now lives in England and is wanted in Thailand on charges of corruption. He has refused to return to the kingdom and says the charges are politically motivated. Since buying Man City for 162.6 million dollars, the Thai billionaire has said he wants to bring players from his homeland to the club. His team is currently third in the Premier League.
