  1. There was an organisation a couple of years ago who wanted to rid the city of anything slave trade related because they felt it'd bring the city down. They wanted to rename roads and builds. In James Street, there's a pub called the Liverpool and in the basement there is apparently a tunnel that leads to the mersey with shackles on the wall. It was used for loading slaves on and off boats.
  2. http://www.keioc.net/index.php?mact=News,c...nt01returnid=15 A recent report, commissioned by Tesco and Everton for Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council from the Government sponsored advisors "Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment" (CABE) has stated the following about Everton’s proposed stadium: "It is our view that Design and Build contracts can produce successful outcomes only when high quality design is embedded in the process; we do not feel that this has been achieved in this case." CABE, a Government sponsored think tank which advises the Secretary of State, Hazel Blears, and Andy Burnham’s department of Sport, Media and Culture, concludes their report with the following damning statement on the whole Kirkby development: "Whilst we welcome the development of the proposed uses on this site we feel that this scheme is, at best, a lost opportunity. The scheme proposed will have a detrimental impact on the town and is not of a standard that Kirkby deserves. This scheme does not meet the criteria in terms of design quality set out in PPS1 and we do not think that it should receive planning permission." This is yet another major blow to the project and brings the probability of enquiry and planning refusal ever closer. The cultural gulf of misunderstanding displayed by Tesco vis-à-vis the future needs of the current residents of Kirkby are apparent in the above statements. Tesco appear to have no concept whatsoever of a community based shopping facility, which the current town centre with its famous market represents, forming the basis of an evolutionary development for the benefit of the town and its residents as a whole. The promotion of organic entrepreneurial businesses within the proposed shopping facility is difficult to see, this is a core principle backed by the Government. 3. He had previously threatened to have the scheme called if problems were not amended. The problems remain unamended and he says he will back the plans. I think he'll be lying low for a while.
  4. Do Russians need work permits?
  5. Apparently Moyes is in Russia watching Dudu and Arshavin http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...-with-Russians/
  6. What do you think of that article?
  7. It's repeated at 4pm today on More4
  8. Here we go, Government say it's almost a certainty to be called in: http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/views/...64375-20797652/ http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...64375-20798053/
  9. EL_bZAdOKhk He looks like a right bruiser. He'd have a cult following here.
  10. Relax.. nothing has changed. Tesco have just bought a shopping centre in Kirkby, you might say it's their plan B. If the government call the stadium project in (and the Daily Post seem to think it will) then Tesco have a plan B where they can put their shop in Kirkby town centre with no Everton involved.
  11. It's not a conspiracy though is it. Savills were contracted by Tesco and Everton for the Destination Kirkby project. It's no coincidence that a Savills director was invited to the AGM to discuss the alternatives to the project his company was involved in. There was only ever going to be one project that he would talk up and not dismiss - the one his own company was involved in.
  12. Confidence is low up here, I think it could be a Villa win. What do you think of Randy Lerner?
  13. It's not that big a deal to be honest, the land they purchased is the land that belonged to Development Securites north of the stadium, all it meaans is that Kirkby Shopping Centre is now ran by Tesco. It does increase Tesco's bargaining position with KMBC but that's about it, at the end of the day the competitions commission, gonw and secretary of state are still watching. At the end of the day, Tesco didn't need to spend the money (£65million) just yet so something's or someone's forced their hand.
  14. Paul, which new stadium has the best design for acoustics in your opinion?
  15. You hold the same opinion as me but sadly I can't see it happening as it would make the people on the board look a bit silly after paying Savills to dismiss the site. The Savills spokesman said: "My conclusion was that the site was too small, inaccessible and inappropriate for any further development [..] but I have never received any information on the site, design infrastructure and costs" Although saying that, Bill Kenwright did say to the shareholders " if you want to, we’ll look at the Bestway again"
  16. There is little or no presence in the city centre of Liverpool. There is a display in JJB Sports in Williamson Square. The training complex is already in Halewood, Knowsley The club are currently looking to move to Kirkby. They are even relocating the EITC offices to Knowsley (Everton In The Community): 1.7 EITC has already began the process of actually relocating to Knowsley. The plan is to move 2 or 3 key divisions into the heart of the community to ensure that a maximum lasting impact is achieved. Talks with the KMBC Economic Development Office are continuing. It is envisaged that the premises will be provided by KMBC, with the office being staffed at the cost of EITC in order to deliver the maximum impact of the programmes locally within Kirkby/Knowsley. 1.27 EITC currently operate this within Liverpool City Council boundaries and intend to operate it within Knowsley in advance of the stadium opening, as part of the satellite office that was discussed above. http://www.knowsley.gov.uk/resources/22830...onCommunity.pdf Does anybody believe that moving everything Everton related to Knowsley is for the long-term benefit of the club?
  17. I didn't fancy staying up for it. Will it be repeated in it's entirety ?
  18. There's an Evertonian DJ called Anton Powers who created a dance group called Cahill named after our Timmy.. Their first single got into the top 40 this week.. fUDWcTSNRkE
  19. I'm no longer impressed with any aspect of the Kirkby stadium. I agree that there should be a mixture of stand designs, not all two level stands. I believe that the club have said that it is a nod to Goodison Park as it was the first stadium to have all stands have two levels. The Archibald Leitch criss-cross pattern is part of Everton, it's instantly recognisable to Evertonians.. from the days of Dixie Dean to yesterday against Chelsea, you know it's Everton because of the criss cross and to lose it would be a mistake. There's no doubt that the acoustics do need to be improved.
  20. A 17-year old has been charged with the murder of Rhys Jones. Good news.. Please don't post the name of the 'person'. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7351448.stm
  21. You are entitled to your opinion - just like everyone else..
  22. From what I gather, it's a standard shell by a Barr architect. It's 'cheap' to build and designed for lower league clubs (and Everton seemingly) who can't afford to have something original.
