  1. Carter wasn't really known in '77. he didn't become Chairman 'til '78. The book's author Nick Walsh (it's the Dixie Dean biography) was born in 1915, Cuff was Chairman between 1922 and 1938. So for Walsh, aged 7 'til 23 Cuff was all he would know. Perhaps it was childhood nostalgia that favoured Cuff over Moores or maybe he didn't like the pools companies being involved with football.
  2. Former Everton Chairman and President of Football League, Will Cuff
  3. Former Everton secretary and manager Theo Kelly was a baseball enthusiast and in 1945, he helped establish a team called Halton Trojans (named after a nearby pub and the team's favourite drink, Higson's Trojan) who would play their games at Bellefield during the summer months. The team lasted until 1958. Apparently Everton had their own baseball team who played at Goodison Park but in 1948 they changed their home venue to Bellefield after a sub-committee of Everton board decided they didn't want Goodison hosting any more baseball games. They played in a final at Goodison Park in the 1948 Lancashire Cup Final against a team known as Formby Cardinals. The Everton Chairman during the second World War, Bill Giddins was also keen on baseball. He allowed Goodison to host a baseball league during the where locals took on American soldiers who were stationed in Liverpool. The home plate was located in the corner between Gwladys Street and Bullens Road. Everton Chairman and owner during the sixties, Sir John Moores attempted to establish a professional league in the 1930s but it didn't work because the media support wasn't there. Dixie Dean, who played for a team called Liverpool Caledonians during that era once represented England at White City Stadium vs. an All-American team (1936). In 1914, England played Wales at baseball at Goodison in front of 4,000 people.
  4. I'm reading a book from 1977, it says that the most famous Everton Chairman of all time is Will Cuff. I would have thought it'd have been Sir John Moores because of the money he put into the club. Is the Sir John Moores popularity a relatively recent development or is the book simply wrong ?
  5. With no formal broker appointed, behind the scenes it could be similar to"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" except that instead of treasure, City financiers are trying to do outdo each other to sell the club for a commission.
  6. I was confused by that too. Goodison Park is secured as collateral on mortgage owed to Barclays (25 year season ticket sales one) The offices are inside Goodison (it may refer to the new development?) The retail store in L1 is not owned by the club, the Walton Lane store may be (let's say it is). Finch Farm is on a long-term lease from private developers Bellefield was sold for £8m, this week it was announced the developers are looking to develop it and sell on for £28m Hopefully the journalist got the wrong end of the stick, otherwise this "information memorandum" could be inaccurate. The £75-100m fee seems high . In 2006 Robert Earl bought 23% of the club for £7m. In theory he could walk away with £15m+ profit after four years, for what? Unless that value included paying off the £45m debt (it won't be that simple) in which case then he'd take £2m+. £250m for a stadium seems very high too. Kirkby Stadium supposedly being built for £78m-£130m depending on who was telling of the cost. Greg O'Keeffe, the LiverpoolEcho Everton correspondent contacted him but he doesn't want to give an interview about what's going on. O'Keeffe tweeted: "Interview not happening. Confidentiality is his priority for now".
  7. Individually all players get more out of the club.
  8. It's a youth tournament hosted by Southend, it's been and gone, I think Fulham won.
  9. I'm here to help. What I do know though is that part of his deal to bring him in from Southend was for Everton academy to participate in the 'Toomey Trophy' tournament.
  10. I'm listening to this.. David Garrett – Rock Symphonies
  11. About four or five are from that team are now full internationals, but still you'd expect Germany to be able to qualify with their reputation for bringing players through and their huge population. Personally I think that an eight team tournament is a little small.. even if it is U21 level.
  12. It's possible that Everton could provide three provide players for the tournament in July. Jack Rodwell, James Vaughan and James Wallace have all been capped by England at U20/U21 level before. It'd certainly make the tournament more interesting from an Evertonian point of view. Wallace: 1 U20 Cap 0 goals Rodwell: 14 U21 Caps 2 goals Vaughan: 4 U21 Caps 0 goals I was surprised to see that Germany did not qualify for it despite winning the competition in 2009.
  13. Orenuga - another one eligible for Nigeria. I don't know much else about him though.
  14. His contract expires in 3 months and he's said he wants to move to Europe (no Bosman in Mexico). Still, I can't see him coming here to sit on the bench.
  15. http://www.telegraph...t-the-club.html Bernie Mullin, a 61 year old U.S.-based Sports executive from Liverpool has taken it upon himself to find a new owner for Everton. I remember that people at the club try and obtain advice from Mulllin on some issues (he's a specialist in sports marketing). It was rumoured he was approached to take the CEO position but he turned it down because he is overawed by football stars. He refused to help out Gillet and Hicks at Liverpool because he is an Evertonian.
  16. What's that ?The History channel show?
  17. http://www.talksport...ker-last-summer An 8minute interview with Moyes.
  18. He has a Nigerian grandfather apparently. He confirms he's eligible here: http://www.evertonfc.com/academy/ross-barkley
  19. An interesting fact about Barkley - he's eligible to play for Nigeria!
  20. Spain is a different kettle of fish because club's negotiate their own tv deals individually and not as a unit like the Premier League does. There's no excuse for English clubs. I don't think I have fell into any trap... there's been over 50 clubs in the English league who have had insolvency experts sniffing around in the past twenty years.
  21. There's only a NEED for it because clubs in England often over expose themselves financially
  22. This is going to be interesting.. free marketeers versus the imposition of regulation. I can't see anything happening soon. As Joe Bernstein says the clubs need to want it. It's interesting to read the comment beneath the article, a guy from Thailand saying it'll be bad for the English game because players wanting more money will go abroad.
  23. You really don't rate Anichebe, do you?
  24. Not quite Mike Benjamin Howard Baker never won a medal. He entered the high jump and came sixth!
  25. What links the following Everton players, past and present; Harold Hardman, Arthur Berry, Benjamin Howard Baker, Daniel Amokachi and Victor Anichebe?
