Cahill on the protest: "The protest when you look at it now was probably something that shouldn't have happened. But I know deep down they appreciate the chairman."
I don't think I ever understood the purpose of the protest properly. What the Blue Union's website said and what the banners at the front of the protest said were two different things.
I'd understand it more if they had come out and said it WAS a protest against the board and then listed the reasons for it.
I also think that the articles in the Daily Mail (Kenwright interview) and Liverpool Echo (Moyes: I sold Arteta, not the board) will have slowed the momentum.
It was because he had just signed a larger contract with the FA to fend off one of the Italian clubs. It would have made the FA look silly had they sacked him weeks after extending his contract.
An image of Bill Kenwright appeared on the tv screens, mixed reaction, some boos and some applause. Moments later, he was shown again and there was applause and not as much booing.
Radio Merseyside described it as "at least a thousand" whilst others have said 2,000. They say they spoke to Kenwright but can't repeat what was said about it as it's daytime radio.
